How do I focus?

The first step to focus is to pay attention to the messages your brain is sending you. For example, as I'm writing this, I found myself thinking about other projects I want to work on and how I can connect each of them to something else I have on the running to-do list in my head. When I have thoughts like this--which led to actions like checking my email, which is a huge distraction for me--I have to stop, look at the importance of the tasks and prioritize. I closed my email and came back to this article so I could keep my focus here.

You may want to turn off notifications while you work and definitely consider a schedule of what you will work on and when, for how long, etc. My routine is pretty fluid and based a lot on when my husband wakes up for the day. Because my computer is hooked up the television in our room, I tend to shut down work when he gets up. Since I don't have a set time when I do this--I usually just keep working until he gets up, even if he sleeps very late--my routine can get out of whack from time to time. But I do have that trigger that I've done enough for one day.
