It was a Friday, the bells of a nearby church had been ringing for at least five minutes. The dark locks of my hair were suddenly entangled around my fingers and I struggled to pull them off. I stared at the large white and red sign before me that read. "GameStop." I took a deep breath, exerting it as I took a step into the store. It was small, but that was understandable since the store had never really been popular around these parts. A tall man with sturdy shoulders and a scruffy beard stood behind the counter, his dark blues staring deep into mine. I gulped, my anxiety becoming worse by the second. He lifted his thick brow and I choked out three words, "I'm new here." A soft smile arose from the corners of his mouth and he nodded, kneeling behind the counter and digging through something. He stood back up and handed me a sheet, which had questions asking about my age, and if I'm liable to work.

"You'll have to fill that out first," He said, running his fingers through his beard. "Even if you have filled it out before, I want a written copy of it by tomorrow."

I frowned, saying, "why do I have to fill out another one exactly?"

"Well, we've had customers before who tried to scam us. By faking an employee registration sheet by copying off google. Had them work here for a few days and noticed that some of the games had gone missing," He explained, taking a single breath every time he'd finish a sentence. I shoved the registration into my pocket and slipped out the door, the cold wind making my hair into a tangled mess. My car was parked at the left end side of the parking lot, it's blue color matching that of the midnight sky above. I opened the door and moved inside, sitting on the leather seat and wrapping my seatbelt around me. "Safety first," I whispered to myself, mimicking my mother's words.

The car's engine turned on immediately, and I pressed the gas. Driving home had always been a peaceful ride for me. Watching the street light's as you'd pass them, seeing people do their midnight jog, and fast-food places being crowded. It all felt like nothing would change, and I was glad. I wanted all of this to stay peacef--

BAMM!

The sound of screeching wheels on a car could be heard and so could a ear-busting alarm, like a siren. My eyes became heavy and blood covered my hands and blood dripped from my nose and onto the car's carpet. I could feel tears forming in the corner of my eyes as I tried to ignore the pain in my left leg. I managed to push the car door open and crawl my way out, landing onto the gravel of the road I'd once been driving peacefully on. Ahead of me was an ambulance, carrying two people. One man. One woman. The man's face looked like he'd been drunk driving and hit a tree, or something worse. The woman on the other hand, her face had been cut up severely, blood gushing down her face. I couldn't see her eyes, so I'd guess she'd lost those too. A nauseous feeling ran up my stomach and I threw up on the road, and when I opened my eyes again there was a man standing there.

"Hello, ma'am can you hear me?" His voice echoed as my vision got faint. "Ma,am, my name is Carson Tucker, I'm with the ambulance here. We're gonna get you to the hospital safely, okay?"

Then everything went dark.

-

"Is he alright!?" A loud woman's voice echoed in my ears. "Get away from him!" I felt something sharp on my arm. I felt myself trying to get up, but I couldn't see anything. I heard breathing and smelled a faint smell of the woods. Something then entered my arm and I felt a spark of pain go up my arm and a shiver went down my spine. I tried opening my mouth to say stop, but no words would come out. Tears rolled down my space and then I heard it.

"Your safe now," the voice said, sending an even bigger shiver down my spine. "I won't let anyone hurt you anymore."
