A sigh escapes Persephone's mouth as the golden beams of sunlight hit her face and the sound of an alarm wakes her up, her eyes still swollen from crying the night before.
"fuck- I'm actually gonna face him today..."
She complained as she dragged her heavy body to her bathroom, nearly tripping in her early morning groggy state. She looked at the mirror noticing her puffy eyes and proceeded to step into the shower. The cold water hit her like a chill through her spine. Once again, she proceeded to cry. "I can't do it... I cant face him after what happened between us. I just-" her thoughts were cut short by the loud sound of her mother's yelling, "Sweetie hurry up, your breakfast is starting to get cold!".
The sound of her mom's voice always comforted her in the morning. "Alright mom! Let me just finish showering!" she yelled back. After the shower, she hastily put on her uniform and fixed her crooked necktie while making her way down the stairs. "oh there you are sweetie! Here, bacon and eggs. Just the way you like em". She enthusiastically handed her the plate with the food arranged to form a smiley face. Persephone smiled as she started to eat the delicious breakfast her mom made her. "Im gonna have leave now sweetie, I have a morning shift at the hospital and I have to be there early. Make sure you come home safe OK?"
Persephone nodded as she kissed her mom goodbye. "Well, I'm pretty much done with breakfast. I should call Daisy and see if I can hitch a ride to school with her." She started to scroll her contacts to look for her friend's name, eventually she found it and started dialing her.
"Hey persie! You calling to ride together?" Daisy said excitedly,
"yeah, is your dad on the way?"
"of course we are! We're nearly reaching your block"
"Alrighty then ill be out" she said as she ended the call. Persephone always knew Daisy was an Early bird, which made the timing more convenient. They had been best friends for more that two years, and both considered eachother as a sister. Persephone got up and stepped out the door locking it behind her. The sun was so bright that she had to cover her eyes and even squint just to see her surroundings. In the distance, she saw the familiar taxi that Daisy's dad drives, along with a smiling Daisy sticking her head out the window and waving her hand. Persephone smiled because this was the first time she had seen her friend in two and a half months since she spent the entire summer in her grandma's house. "Hey!!! Look what the cat dragged in!"
Daisy yelled, giving Persephone a smug look. "Hello, Daisy. I see you are doing pretty good for a country girl"
Both of them laughed and Persephone entered the car. "It's glad to see the both of you laughing at the back of my car again" Daisy's Dad, Mr Montgomery, chuckled as he said those words. Mr. Montgomery was considered a wise and jolly old man by everyone, and he adored both of his daughters. His wife, Mrs. Montgomery worked at an office all day and only saw her children at night. Persephone always wondered how the both of them managed to stay by eachother's side for so long. She had never experienced a complete family, but she did have a happy one, even if it was only her and her mom.
"So persie, how was summer for you?" Daisy asked. "Well it was pretty boring. I cooped myself up in my room and sketched random stuff all summer." she answered looking quite disappointed in herself. "Really? That's all you did? You didn't even travel?". Persephone shook her head and looked out of the window, letting all that had happened in that summer flood her head. "Well, now that us and the gang are actually Complete, we can finally hangout after school and maybe get some lunch. Does that sound good to you?" She nodded and smiled as memories of her entire friend group filled her mind. There was Daisy who she was riding with at the moment. Amelia, the firey redhead, feminist, with a short temper for the entire male species. Nyla, the gamer girl with a sarcastic attitude and Julia, who moved to another school.
It was minutes before they would arrived at their school, the familiar silver gates that guarded the building filled the both of them with nostalgia.
"Man, I can't believe we're in 9th grade already." Daisy exclaimed with a nervous yet excited tone. "just seems like yesterday Daisy was begging me to let her first friend ride with us, and now I see two young ladies." Mr. Montgomery said as he stopped right in front of the gate. "OK dad thanks for dropping us off. I love you." they both said their goodbyes as they both exited the car and see it disappear through the ongoing traffic.
"So which Class are you in?" Persephone asked, curious to know whether they were classmates or not.
"Class c, what about you?" Daisy replied. Persephone grunted as she said "I'm class A, guess we'll just see eachother during lunch and breaktime". "Don't worry, maybe Amelia or Nyla might be your classmates. And look! I see them right over there!" She looked and there in the distance was both Amelia and Nyla sitting on the bench looking impatient as ever. "Hey!!! Over here!!!" Persephone shouted trying to get the attention of both girls. Amelia turned to Persephone's direction and rush over to give both her and daisy a hug, with Nyla following along. "Gosh!! It's been like what? A year or two since I saw you both??". Almelia had to transfer school in another country in 7th grade since her aunt needed a companion, but now she's back. The entire morning the girls laughed and talked and remembered all the embarrassing and happy memories they had as freshmen in 7th grade. Persephone was starting to feel like herlsef again, after a long, long time of shutting herself from the world, she started to open up again. But, then she noticed a familiar dark figure approaching them ever so slowly. Her rate dropped as she managed to take in who she saw. "Hey guys! How've ya been?"
Persephone panicked because she knew she had to face him but she didn't know it had to be this soon. "Oh Hi, Andrew" Amelia said, waving at the the Tall and slender boy. "H-hey Persie..." he said while looming over her. She never really realized how tall Andrew was until she saw him again.
"H-hi..." Persephone greeted while avoiding all eye contact with him.
"Well, I'm sorry I have to leave now. The debate club president is waiting for by me by the teacher lounge. See you all later." he said before he left in a hurry. After that encounter the bell started to ring and they all said their goodbyes and headed towards each of their respective classrooms
