It's dark outside, the flickering of the dull, buzzing streetlights are keeping me awake. It's nearly four in the morning and I haven't slept a wink. Beyond the torn, blue curtains of my window, the silhouette of a woman appeared. I couldn't see much, but she seemed scared. Out of nowhere, she collapses to the ground and cradles herself beside my window as if she were hiding. Not long afterwards I spot a police car, they were driving through the street slowly and quietly, as if trying not to wake anyone. One of the officers is leaning out of the vehicle shining a flashlight towards my house, there's quite a few trees around my bedroom so the woman remains invisible to the authorities. Quiet sobbing emerges from behind my window. It's a cold morning, and she doesn't seem to have a jacket. I move over to open my window, gesturing for her to climb through, she hesitates at first but eventually agrees. As she falls the three feet from my window to the floor, I hear metal clanking.

"What was that? Are you ok?" I exclaimed in a whisper.

"I apologize for frightening you." the stranger, whispers shyly. She lifts up the floor length skirt she is wearing enough to expose her electronic leg.

"I lost it in an accident a while back" she said with a devastating tone.

"I'm sorry to hear that." I replied.

She looks off into the distance, fear in her eyes, it seemed like there were bad memories resurfacing. After closing the window, I step into the kitchen to get her a glass of water, the dirty dishes from yesterday, still sitting in the sink. Out of the blue there was a loud knock on the door. Thoughts in my mind, wondering who it could be. Its just past four, I doubted anyone I knew would be awake at this time. Rushing over I look through the peephole to find out who it is. The police? Why would they be knocking on my door? Reluctantly, I open it.

"Good morning officer, can I help you?" I say, as I pretend to have just woken up.

"Have you seen this girl?" he asks, as he shows me a photograph. The woman the officer is showing to me has dark skin, short, messy, brown hair and bright green eyes. Looking closely at the picture, seeming deep in thought, I realise it's the woman I invited into my home through my bedroom window. Surely I can't let them take her without knowing the reason for the search.

"I'm afraid not, might I ask what she's done?" I asked, somewhat fearing for both my life and hers, considering the fact, I could be harboring a criminal.

The officer walks away, avoiding my question. I watch him get into his vehicle and proceed down the road. I return to my bedroom with the glass of water I left to grab for the girl. When I reach the bedroom, I freeze, she's gone? I quickly search the rest of the building. No sign of her, I suppose the knock on the door frightened her. I hadn't even gotten the chance to ask why she's hiding, let alone her name. I jolt my head toward the window, with a confused expression on my face. Rushing over, to check the surrounding area for the girl, there are no traces of her ever being there.
