Lyra had never lived in a more awful time. 2020 was by far the worst year in history, in her opinion. In all her 13 years of life, she could have never thought of a time when you couldn't even go outside without having to take at least fifty-thousand safety precautions, but she didn't complain, oh no, because she would rather not go 6 feet near people than be in the hospital with Covid and maybe die. I mean, probably not, but she can't get the thought out of her brain.
As much as she didn't care about all these precautions, she missed her friends. It was death having to live with her family, and she often curled up under her covers and fell into a deep trance-like reading state. She would stay like that for hours on end, only coming out of her locked door, which was decorated with a 9 3/4 stick-on so that she could pretend that her room was the Hufflepuff common room, to get her plate of food. And when she did so, she would come out with her book still in hand, fully immersed, and once or twice spilling some of her meal.
But there were some times when her two older sisters, Soomin who was seventeen and Gayeon who was 26, caused so much of a commotion that even someone wearing sound-proof headphones could here them. And not to mention Lyra's mom. She did not help at all. It was a good thing, she thought, that her father was off for a business trip in South Korea, where their family was from. Or else the house would probably burst because of all the noise.
Lyra would sometimes wonder why her name was the only one in her family's that wasn't Asian. She understood that she was born in America, but even then, wouldn't she have a Korean name? Why was she named after a star constellation? But she kind of liked it, because she found that lots of the people from Harry Potter also were named after constellations. She also liked her name. Lyra, she thought while lying awake in her warm bed while drifting off to sleep, was pretty. Beautiful, even, and she never used that word. It was too cheesy for her. A harp looking constellation. Maybe if she were at Hogwarts, she would be practicing Frog Choir, playing an enormous old and shiny harp, or something, and then, sleep stole her away.

The photo I used for Lyra is not mine, and I got it from Pinterest. The artist's user is "Amazon". Other than that, the story (so the idea, plot, characters, theme, writing, and editing) and the cover were all made by me. This is my first story, so please vote! Thank you for reading, and I am working hard to get out the other parts. :)
