As I moved closer to the house, a thought struck in my head. For the past couple of days from observing them, there would always be people walking in and out of this particular house, this has to be the leader's place. I just hope he or she can understand my situation and lend me a hand. I walked closer, then slowly reached out to knock on the door.
Someone opened the door on the third knock, it was a boy almost the same age as me, but maybe older. I stood there unsure of what to say, and he stood back just staring at me. I heard someone talking inside the house. "Jake, who's at the door?" It was a man, it could be the boy's father. The boy just stood there dumbstruck. I heard footsteps making their way closer to where I stood by the door, it was a man in his thirties, probably the boy's father.
"Hey there, are you looking for someone?" the man asked. "N- No, I- I need a p- place to live," I couldn't find the voice to speak and ended mumbling instead. "Well, where's your family kiddo?" "Dead. My uncle told me you were w- we- werewolves," For a second, the man just stood there with the boy, speechless.
"Are you a werewolf?" he asked softly. "Yes." "Well then, any werewolf is welcome to stay here. Come on in," He said gleefully "Jake, help the little girl carry her bag would you?" The boy, Jake came over and took my bag from me and we entered the house. The house was bigger than the one I lived in with my uncle, it was really nice too. I couldn't help myself from looking at every corner, everything was interesting.
The man came up to me while I was staring at a moose head that hung on the wall. "Why don't you follow Jake? There's an empty room on the left," he said while pointing towards the boy "You can take a shower, get settled in and dinner will be ready soon," I didn't speak, but I followed the boy to a room the man had pointed to a minute ago.
The room was big, and it looked as though it had been split in half. One half of the room was unoccupied and that's were Jake had put my bag; the other half of the room was well decorated, but it seemed as though no one had been in here for weeks. There were two bathrooms, one on either side of the room. The only thing separating the two halves of the room, was the thick velvet blue curtain.
Jake must have understood what I was thinking, because he said, "Don't worry, that is Seth's part of the room. He doesn't come back often," My mind shifted to a whole other place when I heard that name. Seth. Seth. SETH. The name brought back so many bittersweet memories that I refuse to think about right now. After that, Jake left and I was alone.
I took my time emptying the contents from my bag. There weren’t much... some clothes, old photos, my mom's grimoires, and the blanket my dad had given me the day their car crashed. I placed everything where I wanted them to go and found a safe place for my mom's spellbooks. As I walked out of the bathroom after a shower and feeling a little better, the man from before comes in "Dinner's ready. You must be starving, c'mon"
I followed the man outside to where many other people were sitting around a campfire. There were about fifteen people there, the man took a seat and gestured for me to sit down too. I sat on the log beside his, which was also the log Jake sat on. There weren't many girls there and there was certainly no girl my age. A lady was passing around platters with food on them and soon after, everyone had their own plate of food.
Dinner was quiet. After dinner a few people stayed back while the others headed back to their own homes. I was about to go back to my room too when Jake came by. "Hey, I'm Jake, Jake Hunter" "Hi, I'm Kaitlyn Forbes," I came off a little shy because this whole place was still very new to me. "I'm ten years old, you?" "Nine" I smiled, he was really nice.
The man called him from inside the house "Oh, I got to go. My dad's is calling, you can call him Sam,” so the man was his father “I’m going inside now, you coming?" I nodded my head and we went into the house. Jake left to other side of the house to look for his father and I entered my room. Now that I really look at it, it actually has a great view of the woods from the window.
I fell asleep that way, staring at the woods. Maybe I was just hoping, wishing that uncle Mark would somehow find his way out and be safe, unharmed by any of the rogues. That night I dreamed of him, Seth, he was right on the tire swing, we were laughing and we had no worries then either. Everything was as simple as how a normal kid would think.
If only life could just rewind, I'd go back to the time I didn't have to worry who I told my real identity to. I didn't have to always keep an eye out in case someone was out to get me. None of those things mattered to the three year old me, everything was simplified, easy, fun and nothing like how my life is right now. My parents, Uncle Mark, they'd all still be around.
I'd go back to that white swing set on the front porch, sitting beside Seth, we'd fall asleep there sometimes when the weather was nice. My parents would take me to the beach, my mom would use her green witch power to make her garden the loveliest one in the neighbourhood, everything would be exactly the way it was, perfect.
I woke up in a startle, that's when I noticed I had fallen asleep and all those sweet moments were just a part of my dream. I stared out the window at the woods again, I sensed a right to be there, a sense of belonging. I could almost feel the trees calling to me, to go outside and enjoy the moonlight.
I looked to my blanket my dad had given me some time ago and gasped when I saw my ring, the ring my mother gave me minutes before the crash was glowing. It had a really nice reddish glow to it, almost as though it was engulfed in flames. As I took a look closer, I could see writings and designs on the once plain silver ring.
I took a closer look at it after it stopped glowing. It had what seemed like witch writings on it and a really cool flame design too. I couldn't read the writings because it was in the middle of the night and the whole room was pitch black. After all the excitement washed out of me, I dozed off and didn't wake up till the next morning.
This time there were no dreams or memories of the past haunting my sleep, I slept through the rest of the night without anything interrupting me. It was the best sleep I’ve had in days, knowing I was safe for now made me put all my worries on hold, for now.

P.S. Try to figure out why Seth is so important in Kaitlyn's life. Although it may not be the same person as from Kaitlyn's imagination.
