"Oh it was incredible! Easily the best concert I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot!" He praised and the butterflies in my stomach danced. I knew they were good from what I'd read, but hearing stories from normal people like me, and not music critics made those accusations a lot more creditable.
"Oh, so you'd recommend?" I asked, taking a sip of my cocktail. If only he knew I knew Brandon.
"Oh, for sure. Maybe we could check out a show together one time?" Daniels voice trailed up at the end. I felt awful knowing that if we were to attend a Killers concert together, it probably wouldn't be in the way he imagined it. Suddenly, the buzzing of my phone broke the rhythm of the conversation and I excused myself as I pulled the device out to check who was after my attention. Brandon. What a coincidence.
"Excuse me," I stood up and dropped my bag on the chair whilst I slithered past the girls to get outside as fast as I could. "Hello?"
"There she is, I thought you wasn't going to answer." His voice was light and bubbly and made me instantly smile.
"Hey you. Sorry, I was battling the crowds to get outside."
"Oh, so you weren't lying about the C bar having a better atmosphere than a Killers show?"
"Nope, it's quite busy here tonight."
"Oh well, that sounds great because me and Ron are just about to pull up outside." I could hear the joy in his voice.
"Wait, WHAT!?" My eyes started to dash around at every car nearby. "What are you doing?"
"Don't sound too disappointed, Naomi." Brandon's tone was clipped and I think I'd hurt his feelings by the way my words fell out my mouth.
"No, Brandon, no I didn't mean it like that. I just meant why here?"
"I wanted to see you for your birthday celebrations...and me and Ron decided to enjoy the night having just finished our last show for a while."
"I'm happy for you to enjoy the night with me, but you do remember that the guys who are here tonight are the guys who came to see you earlier? Do you want them to quiz you all night?" I was still searching for them to pull up, but there was no signs of them yet.
"Yes, I remember you saying. It doesn't bother me. I spend a chunk of my life answering questions anyway. Besides, I don't plan on spending the whole night here anyway." I was surprised at how disappointed I felt when he said he wouldn't stay the whole night, even though he had yet to meet up with me. It was never easy having to say goodbye to Brandon Flowers.
"Only if you're sure, but don't say I didn't warn you! Where are you?"
"Behind you." I almost jumped out of my skin as I felt his hand touch my shoulder. My heart beat was surely visible through my chest. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. The cab driver dropped us off on the corner so we walked round. Naomi, this is Ron. He is our drummer."
"Yes, we met before." I smiled as I stretched my hand out for him to shake. He completely disregarded it and instead pulled me into a big bear hug.
"I remember you, I think. You were at Island weren't you? The kid with all the flowers."
"Yes and you came to my rescue."
"I did indeed. Now I'm bringing you flowers of another kind. They may not be as pretty as your other flowers, but hopefully he smells nicer!" He thumped Brandon in the middle of his chest, who then let out a small "umph", followed by a Brandon giggle. The sweetest sound.
"He's alright, I suppose." I joked as I crossed my arms across my chest. The goosebumps on my skin were a telltale sign of how the cool Nevada nights were nipping at my skin. "Let's go in. Ronnie has Brandon warned you about my friends?" I asked, leading the way.
