24 HOURS

The Lake

"SADIEEE! Are u ready, we're leaving in ten minutes!" My mom shouted from the kitchen

"YEAH MOM,I'LL BE DOWN IN A SECOND!" I said excitedly as I packed my bikini into my bag and made my way downstairs.

"SHOTGUN" I said to my brother who was in the kitchen as I practically ran to the car to sit in the front.

"Hey Dad" I said panting. I was pretty sure he was tired of us.

"Again?" He said in disbelief as i nodded giggling.

Soon after my mom and Connor were in the car. I could feel Connor glaring at me from the back seat but I ignored him.

3 Hours later
We pulled into the driveway of our vacation home. This place never seized to amaze me at how beautiful it was. I got out of the car and got my bag from the booth and made my way to my room.

It was exactly how I left it. I got to unpacking because I knew if I didn't unpack I would get to go in the lake later tonight.

After I was done I heard announcing dinner and I made my way downstairs all giddy.

"What's got you so happy psycho?" He asked scoffing at me as I skipped towards the dining table

"None of your business dickhead!" I said as he gasped and turned to my mom with a look of disbelief

"Ohh no no no I refuse to be dragged into you two's argument again. I reserve my comment for another time, thank you" She said as she took her seat at the table.

I was done eating in seconds. I made my up to my room to change into a bikini and to get my speakers. I went downstairs once I was done.

"Mom I'm off to the lake" I told her as I make my way to the door with my stuff

"Don't stay in too long unless u wanna look all pruney" She said scrunching her nose at the end of the sentence.

The lake wasn't far from the house as I had reached there in just so little time. I took out my speaker to play some songs just to fit in with my mood.

As my legs touched the water I felt a wave of relief because of how warm the water was. I was almost thinking of skinny-dipping but I thought against it because I don't know what things might be in there.

"Hmmmm" I sighed while roaming around the water. I close my eyes and make my way into the water. Something caught my eye at the deep end. I swam towards it.

It was a book but it was now buried under seaweed. I tried  my best to pry the seaweed off it.

"Ah ha" I said in triumph as I took out the book. I was about to swim to shore when something grabbed at my leg. It must be seaweed I thought as I continued going hoping it would cut but it didn't.

I looked at my feet only to find that it was a rotten hand that was holding onto my leg. I was terrified as I saw a pair of bright red eyes along with it. I was thrashing in the water trying to get it off. I felt hands on my arms pull me up and out of the water.

"Ahhhhhhh" I screamed as I was pulled to shore. I opened my eyes breathing heavily and saw Connor.

I looked back at the water and saw a pale hand retreating into the water.

"What the fuck is wrong with you Sadie" he screamed bringing me out of my trance.

"I- we need to get out of here" I said pulling him to the house

We got to the house as I dragged my brother upstairs not sparing my mom a glance but I knew she wasn't surprised seeing him wet assuming it was my fault. I got to my room and closed the door and let go of him.

"What the fuck happened out there Sadie?" He asked clearly fuming.

I paced around the room oblivious of the question he just threw at me.

"SADIE!" He yelled trying to get my attention and it worked as I looked up to see my brother fuming.

"Well I took this from the water and something or someone grabbed my leg and tried to drag me down under" I said rambling on while holding the book.

"Okayyy?" He said confused

There was something in the water that didn't want me to have this book." I said while pacing frantically around my room still dripping wet and soaking my carpet while I was holding on to the book

"Then why did u go through all that trouble getting it? I mean u almost died Sadie!" He said standing up visibly getting agitated by my argument.

"Because... I don't know I just wanted it" I stopped pacing still trying to think of what it was that grabbed me.

"Well whatever happens to you because of that book, DON'T come to me" He said walking towards the door not failing to hit my shoulders as he slammed my door.
