Disguised

Lily

Screams, echoes, yells. All that is heard among the destruction is my breathing. I won't remember this. But I want to remember the death and chaos that was caused by him. I want to remember the key to this puzzle. But memory is slowly starting to weaken. I can't remember how I got here, only that I had to get out.

My hands are bloody, my feet soaked with the mess that was leaking from under the door. I want to run, scream, hide and find a way to escape this nightmare and earn my place among the heroes. But the loss of so many would bear on me forever. 

He did this. And he will pay.

My friends, dead. My family never existed in the first place. And Rin, her name echoed in my head, urging me to run. Thinking of her was painful. My Rin, lost to this twisted man and his craving for power. I will forget his name, his face, his true self. But I know that every inch of my bones will gravitate towards him. 

I slowly started to crawl out of the building. My nails were scratched with dirt and blood as I crawled towards what I wanted to call freedom. I felt lifeless bodies pile up more and more as I reach the exit. Faces torn off for a sick experiment, the screams of the dead filling the air. I just wanted freedom. To run for shelter screaming for mercy. But the world would soon fall apart. And I wanted to be there to see it.

The exit was near. I was so close, I could feel the sunlight beaming on my face. But something, someone was blocking my path. The world was a black haze of destruction but this man was standing in front of her as if nothing had happened. If was him.

"Now, where do you think you're going?" he asked curiously as if he was asking dearly to a lost aunt.

I stayed silent, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of my fear.

"Now now, don't be so harsh. The world's about to self destruct and this is your attitude? That's not a way for a young lady to behave. Especially in front of a man like me. I have the power now."

"You killed my girlfriend. You have no power over me."

"Ah but I will. Surely Rin would have wanted a swift wipe for you. Nothing but a blank haze?"

"Say her name again." I dare him, matching his gaze.

"Mankind are so protective, don't you think? Rin died in agony, if you wished to know." He said, stroking my cheek in a sympathetic gesture.

"You're a monster." I spit in his face.

"Oh so harsh," He exclaimed with a false shock. "You will come crawling back to me in your next life, as you did before that and before that. Every time however, you fought back, with the little power you had. And every time, I had to start over. Now you won't. Well, can't actually."

With one swift motion, he dragged me kicking a screaming back down the hall and through the door.

He thrust me into a hard metal seat and shone the light down on me. I was blinded whilst he injected me. Then he shut the door and let the monsters do their work. Tearing off any part of dignity that was still left in my body, leaving me stripped raw of emotion and feeling. They left me, numb and alone. 

The gas knocked me out, and I became an Adxert again, a blind follower of a tyrannical leader.
