Niko sat anxiously in the airport, staring at the text he had just sent. “are you here yet??” The chat bubble appeared. “yes i’m like just getting off the plane” His heart was beating fast. It was late August of 2017, a few days before the beginning of the World Cup. His childhood friend, who he had grown up doing gymnastics with, was coming back to Japan from Taiwan for the first time in 3 years. They had of course kept contact through text message, but hadn't physically seen each other since then. Although, he wasn’t exactly here just to visit. The two had been competing in gymnastics within Japan for years now, but in 3 days there would be other professional gymnasts from around the world joining them for the world cup.

News had also reached him that he would be getting a coach, who would help him perform professionally and have him work his way to the top. He hadn’t been seriously coached before, so that was just another thing he added to his pile of things to worry about. Oh and of course, one more thing. Word had spread that one of the most worldwide famous gymnasts, a young man from Germany by the name of Elias Wexner was also coming to compete in Japan for the world cup. He shook his head, trying to calm his racing mind so he would only focus on the arrival of his friend.

It was soon enough he spotted the most familiar bright pink dyed hair, and he practically flew out of his seat towards him. The pink haired man turned around, his face instantly lighting up at the sight of him. Niko didn’t give him a chance to properly react before taking him back with a hug, which he quickly returned. “Niko, it’s been so long!” He smiled. “Han...It’s been 3 years, why didn’t you come sooner you dummy?” Niko shook his head and laughed. “Did you bring Benji??” “Why wouldn’t I!” Han’s mini poodle, Benji, followed him on every journey. And he, Han Gengxin, had brought him all the way to Japan.

“It’s just so great to see you again, I..!” Niko couldn’t even finish his sentence. “The others aren’t here yet, right?” Han shook his head. “Nope, not for 3 days. I heard there’s going to be lots of foreign Europeans, though. Russia,Italy, Germany, many more.” “Speaking of Germany..That famous guy..Elias, right? Is he like..actually coming?” He nodded. “Wait..seriously? Isn’t he super famous??” “Yeah, and you said you were looking for a coach, right? For all I know it could be him.” Niko only rubbed his temples in disbelief. “No, that’s nuts! Like he’d pick me of all people. I’m not even that good..” “Nonsense, Niko! I’ve been training beside you since we were kids, I’ve seen what you can do!” He sighed. “Alright..I’ve got so much on my mind, right now let’s just get you to the hotel, okay?” “Got it.” And so they left the airport, Niko’s brain still refusing to shut off. This was only the beginning, the beginning of a long progression to be the best in his country.
