Maryly ran as fast as her feet could possibly carry her, her child cradled in her arms against her bosom.
The threat was gaining on her.
She reaked of fear, for her child for the future that may well possibly never come to be.
She was afraid the sacrifice of her lover, father to her daughter would be in vain.
The forest was thick, the expanse of it just made it almost impossible for her to think of being able to find safety, but nature was her friend and she would use that against her enemy.
Her lover had stayed behind to help give them a better chance of survival.
He stayed behind to try and hold of the beasts that were hungry for the blood of the little angel in her arms who for some reason had slept through all of it.
She stole a glance at her sleeping daughter and had to smile. The babe had her silver hair, and face of her father. She knew in her heart that she would grow to be a strong woman, if she survived this.
She hated having such a terrible fate left to her beautiful child. So innocent, so ignorant to the world around her,to the danger that craved her life so..
Oh heavens.. If you can hear me.. Have mercy on my child.. She said the silent prayer.
She could now smell them. Their scent was getting closer. She had to do something to shake them off their trail even if for a little while.
The trees groaned in anticipation, the leaves rustled waiting upon her command, the grass swayed as if in awaiting stance ready to claim the enemy.
The wind whistled in her ear, as if to remind her she was among friends..among allies ready and willing to fight for her and hers to the very end.
She stopped, struggling to find her breath. She turned and awaited the enemy to get closer. She looked down again at her beautiful child for you my child.. I am willing to give my life..
They slowed their pace, they knew of her strength just as she was aware of theirs. Even though they outnumbered her a great deal she could easily take their lives.
Their only saving grace was the child she held, for she feared hurting the young babe.
"Give up Maryly.. The cause you fight for is lost.. You know you cannot protect the child for long.. After everything I've lost.. Her death is the only thing that can appease the dead.. .. Look.. You're lover's blood is still fresh on my fangs.. We could have stopped all this from happening if only you had listened.. "
" Tell your men to retreat Azdor or I shan't spare their lives. "
" Barks of a wounded dog I'd say.. You're weak and you know it.. If you could, you would have killed us all long before. But you chose to flee because you have lost your power all in the name of love.. Paah! You accepted this weakness for a love that was doomed to begin with.. You chose your bed and now you shall lay on it.. "
" I'd say a wounded dog is more fierce as it has nothing to lose.. Don't you agree?? .. Azdor" she said with a sarcastic hint.
"Men! My daughter's hand in marriage to the man that brings me her head" he barked.
At that the beasts raced toward her and her child. She knew this might as well be her last day to breath but she would ensure the life of her child was out harms way.
Calling on to her friend.. Nature.. She hugged her child once more, kissed her forehead and released her to the wind... To carry her in its embrace and take her to safety, away from the awaiting mouths of the beasts.
A tear found its way down her beautiful flawless skin..it hurt her to part with her child like this but this was how it would be.. Be safe my child.. May the goddess be with you..
She turned to face the enemy, her mind at peace her heart in shatters, her soul resigned.
For the lover she lost and the child she may not hold again, she would fight. She lifted her hands above her head, turned her feet in stance and concentrated on the task at hand..
The leaves shuffled,
the trees groaned,
the wing sang.
She would gladly die fighting.. For she would join her lover in the after life and together they would watch and protect their most treasured.
Fly my child.. Be strong for me.. As I have been for you..
And with that she closed her eyes and charged at the enemy lusting for their blood.
