Homecoming

Walking through Brize Norton . The horrors of another tour left behind , two section were exhausted . After 6 months of early mornings and late nights ; they were certainly ready for some r&r. Georgie and Sam walked in-front watching out for will and Tom .

Georgie had never really felt homesick , until this tour . She missed will endlessly like she never though she would but after countless restless nights and nightmares , she was home ...  During the nights of no sleep and overthinking, many thoughts Swam through her head . Thoughts of starting a family and spending the rest of her life with will .  She would often joke that she couldn't think of anything worse than a mini Will running around but deep down she couldn't think of anything better .

As Will fell into view she dropped her bag and sprinted towards him , she jumped up and hugged him . Holding on with every inch of her life . " I've missed you," she whispered into his ear . " I bet I've missed you more ," he responded gently. " let's get you home ," he continued .

Simultaneously Sam was comforted in Toms embrace , finally at peace with herself after 6 months of internal battles . Sam ached to return home to spend as much time with Tom as possible but something about the Army always compelled her to stay . She felt time was slipping through her fingers , every waking moment she spent away from her fiancé felt like an age . Unlike Tom , Sam had never wanted kids , the idea of changing dirty nappies and waking up in the middle of the night to tend to a crying baby was enough to put her off .

Whilst on tour Sam felt like her whole world came crashing down around her . Silently she struggled to come to terms with the horrors she faced on a daily basis . She didn't crack , she didn't even mutter a word of this to anyone . She just smiled and continued. Like she was taught to do in basic training . There was to be no emotion in the army they said - no matter how horrific what you have seen is .

Being a doctor Sam knew only too well that emotion was natural . In the Ed she dealt with different people , feeling different emotions with each passing hour . Yet she didn't quite seem to be able to grasp her own feelings . She had a habit of bottling things up . Preferred to act like everything was fine on the outside ; but on the inside she was fighting her own war.

" it's good to see you major Nicholls ," Tom whispered gently into her ear , each passing word filled with love . " it's good to see you too dr Kent ," she whispered back not moving from his embrace .

She stayed quietly in his embrace for a couple of minutes, treasuring every second she spent with him like it was the last. "At least I can come home tonight , presentation of medals isn't until next week ," she spoke , her voice filled with relief. " you can stop thinking about work now you know . Sam your exhausted , anyone would be after coming home from a war zone . Let's get you home and you can have a nice warm shower and get into bed ," Tom suggested. "I think I'll take you up on that offer Tommy," she agreed . As the last word left her lips their lips touched , only for a second or two but that second was magical . " I love you ," they both said simultaneously.
