Chapter Twenty-Eight

Start from the beginning

We then heard approaching footsteps from the hallway behind us. "Alright, let's split up," Jack said. Jack and I began to walk away, but Randall continued to hold the puppy. "Randall," I called, "Come on." He nodded and put the black and white puppy down. Randall and I ventured down to the basement of the building, I continued to hold my backpack at my side.

"Holy shit..." I mumbled as I saw all of our stuff. I looked over the shelves of the basement and soon found the thing I was looking for: The power incantation book. I grabbed the book and ran my fingers over red and gold lettering.

It read: Imperium Carmen, which translated to The power incantation. I smirked and slipped the book into my bag. "Jack!" Randall called, "Come down here!" Jack walked down the steps and looked around. "Oh my god," Jack mumbled.

"No hide lockers though," Randall said and sighed. Randall looked down, finding a pizza box on the wooden table. "Gross," I said, "Who puts olives on a Hawaiian pizza?"

"Alyssa Drake," Jack answered

I stood beside Jack, Randall, and Hamish while my mother and Kepler stood in front of us. My mother leaned against her desk, listening to us. "She was there," Kepler said, "Why?" Randall and I looked at Jack. "Based on the books and the pizza," Jack responded, "I would say she was in full-on research mode."

"Researching what, exactly?" mother asked.

"I would have asked her, but she was busy trying to blast me through a wall."

"I thought her magic was defective," Kepler said. "Felt pretty fixed to me," Jack said. Randall, Hamish and I chuckled slightly. Kepler cleared her throat, trying to signal Vera to speak. "Remember your place, disciple," Mother said, "Tell me about these puppies." Randall grinned and pulled out his phone. "The girl one is Bandit and the other girl one is Larry," he showed her the picture, "See?"

"I'm a bandit kind of guy, but-"

"Who cares about the puppies!" Kepler interrupted. Randall and I raised our hands at Kepler's stupid ass response. "Your wolves just let a traitor slip through their hands," Kepler said. "We also recovered a third of your stolen inventory," Hamish said. "Yeah, we," Randall corrected, furrowing his eyebrows as he stepped forward.

"Inventor that we wouldn't have to recover if you hadn't stolen it in the first place," Kepler said

"Inventor that we wouldn't have to recover if you hadn't stolen it in the first place," Kepler said. "Blame us all you want, but Praxis always had the Order in its sights," I argued, "It's just a matter of time."

"Your actions made it a damn sight easier for them to hurt us," Kepler countered, narrowing her eyes. "Councilor Kepler, as always, your opinion is welcome," Mother said, "However, this raid was a success. I think the Knights should be rewarded." She brought a chair over and sat in it. "I'm promoting you all to the rank of Magistratus," she continued. Randall scoffed, "Five points to Gryffindor." I chuckled and gave him a high five.
