When Two Worlds Collide

              It was an eerie, dark night, as Sage laid in his bed listening to the rain pitter patter against the old windows. Sage was a young boy, barely 16 years old, living in a world where the government has crumbled to the ground and society has been left to fend for itself in the debris of a broken world. The government crumbled only just a few years ago, and society had already turned against itself, fighting for what was left of supplies. Of course those who were more wealthy had a better chance at just about everything. Although at this point money had became practically worthless, they already had better supplies, and more food, land, and education to begin with. That also triggered an even bigger divide between society, between the rich and the poor. Some of the poor folks would end up on the doorsteps of the rich, asking for help, sometimes, the rich would take them in, either in kindness, or to use them for their own gain. Others left, to fend for themselves, some went into hiding, some almost stripped of their human qualities, fighting one another for food and shelter. Sage's family, had taken in another, one of the less fortunate families, the family of a boy named Len. Back when the crumble had just begun, Len's family asked for help from Sage's family, the Irvine's. Sage knew the boy Len, quite well, Sage, even had a little bit of a crush on Len, back when the days of going into town with friends was normal. Sage's parents weren't very keen on the idea of supporting another family, despite their overwhelming amount of supplies and wealth, but with the boy's soft puppy dog eyes, his parent's reluctantly agreed, and the two families have been living with one another for the past three years now. Sage and Len secretly dating. 

                 Sage and Len we're both inseparable, and on this particularly cold, damp night, the two boys were sitting in Sage's bed, simply enjoying the company of one another. The peace of the soft rain pelting the old creaky rooftop was soon interrupted by a sudden, loud crash and glass from the newly shattered window hitting the floor with a loud clank and clattering sound. Len bolted upright scanning the room for whatever may have caused the loud noise. Sage's eyes soon landed on a thin, shivering boy, maybe a little older than himself shaking in the corner close to the window, covered in cuts from the broken glass, his clothes all tattered and ripped. The boy looked to be much taller than Sage, and incredibly thin. Len picked up a nearby lamp, holding it like a bat, preparing to strike the boy. "Please, I....I didn't know anyone was here.... and I- I'm hungry" The thin boy said, his voice strained, and shaking.....was he crying, Sage couldn't help but think to himself. "Len, put that thing down" Sage said with a small sigh, " Hey, go hide in the closet, and be quick, my dad will be up here any second, and if you want me to help you, you better be quick". Len put down the lamp and walked over to grab a broom, only muttering to himself quietly. The unnamed boy quickly nodded and rushed into the old closet and slowly and quietly shut the door with a soft squeak from the old rusted hinges. " What in God's name was that noise?!" a large, heavyset man exclaimed and he burst through the old door, the man's cold grey eyes, wide with alert, landing on the shattered window pane. "Nothing dad, it must've been a sickly bird or something, you know those windows are old" Sage says with a shake of his head. "Well one of you two get that mess cleaned up, I'll get Bailey to replace the window in the morning, with one of the spares in the cellar" the man muttered shaking his head, and stomped off huffing. "Those damn boys, always makin' some kinda' trouble" 

And that was the beginning of the end of everything Sage had come to know for the past three and a half years.

Hey ya'll! This is my first time writing in a while, so please forgive any errors you may find. I really hope you enjoy the story and all of it's characters as much as I do. I've had this plot tucked away for a long time, as I came up with it when I was 13 or so (I'm 17 currently). I'm gonna try to include bits and pieces of art along the way (as I really love to draw, just can't always find the time to finish up pieces) Updates may be kind of slow as well, as I am a highschool student with a job, etc. I hope none of this affects anything and you enjoy none the less.
