Annabeth holds her Yankees cap and twirls it in her fingers nervously on the elevator. We ride with the other kids from Camp Half Blood. All of us wonder what the gods want with us and won't tell us about. Two girls stand in the back of the elevator, chatting, when everyone else is silent. I can't help but eavesdrop. I peek over my shoulder to see who's talking. I recognize one girl from the Demeter cabin at camp. Her name is Cecile, she's short and thin with chin length, straight hair that glows orange. She's not well known at camp because she's very quiet, but I always lose to her at sword fighting. The girl next to her, I don't know. She must be a hunter. She's tall and very pale with dark brown hair layered across her back and bangs that hang in her eyes. The whisper to each other. I only catch parts of their conversation.
"My mom said..." "Well I heard..." "It's not allowed!" "Would they really do that?" "...that's what I thought." "Morgen! No way!" "Yes way!"
"I'm telling you, Cecile." The taller girl, now named Morgen, says, "We will be lucky to make it out alive."
