Simple

a/n: here's the lander oneshot! its a bit short, but i tried a new writing style for this! all the events here happened in canon (see the music video in ep 4), but i added some more emotion and small details to them!

Friendship is simple. To Luke, what was not simple was the fact that Zander had no friends. Luke ran up to the him, standing in the tree's shade and gave him a small smile. Zander looked at him nervously, picking at his purple sweater. The other simply held his hand out. Zander taking hold of it was not a mistake.

Music is simple. What was not simple was the feeling that Luke felt when he saw Zander play the piano for the first time. It was a mix of warmth in his heart and a twist in his stomach. Luke paused his drumming, laying his drumsticks on the drum's plastic covers. He earned a questioning look from the others. He flushed and continued playing the repetitive beat.

Winter is simple. What was not simple was how Luke managed to feel warm in the midst of all of snow. Zander slipped, falling back. On impulse, Luke rushed towards him and reached an arm out. Zander braced himself for the hard cold impact of the snowy walkway, but instead he was caught by Luke. He looked back up at him. Realisation struck Luke, making his face flush. He removed his hand, creating a snowball and running towards Hailey instead.

Piano is simple. What was not simple is remembering all the keys to play when Zander was teaching him. Zander laughed and placed his hands on top of Luke's. Luke felt himself warm as he attempted to play Ode to Joy. It was one of the more simpler songs that beginners did but he found himself struggling, with Zander and him inches apart. Luke laughed and continued to press down on the white keys.

Friendship is simple. What was not simple was the sensation of his chest being lit on fire as Zander said 3 short words. The same words Luke has had bubbling in his soul for years, ever since middle school. Luke's mind raced, filled to the brim of panic and relief. Luke held Zander close, into a tight embrace. Zander returned it with the same force, the same love.

Because Love isn't simple enough to put into words.

a/n:  and thats the end!!  this work is a bit different to the other works i've written, being more abstract but i really love how it turned out! i hope you enjoyed it too :)
