Shrouded (Old Version)

Start from the beginning

Soon all three of our ships were brought right next to ghost ship which looked even scarier up close, I had been careful not to get so close as to smash into a lifeboat which had been left suspended on the side with some kind of shapeless form lying inside, I had a thought of what it could have been but I didn't dare to look, it probably wasn't anything much important.

Then we all just kinda stood there, not exactly sure on what to do as the waves softly sloshed against our bows.

"So um," Vestal spoke up, "should we just wait to see who might show up or... what?"

"I think it would be wise to board her, the ship doesn't look very secure at the moment and she might be hurt."

I hummed in reply, giving the idea a quick once-over before saying, "Alright, Vestal, you come with me to offer support should we need it, Washington, you stay with your ship and keep watch for anyone else."

Washington scoffed over the radio, "Like I'm going to be left for this, no way, I'm coming with you whether you like it or not."

I tried to argue with her for a moment but all words quickly dimmed down to nothing, once Washington had her mind set on something, that was it, there was no stopping her.

And so with a bit of reluctance, we grouped ourselves together and made our way onto the ship by means of a ladder that lead to an open entry door, basking one more time in the light before making our way further inside.

Finding a pair of binoculars took a lot longer than I had anticipated, most of the doors had been rusted shut and there had been another collapsed segment I had to make my way around but I found them eventually, they were clutched in the hands of an officer holding it close to himself protectively.

Of course, I didn't take them from him, not right away, I first looked around a little bit longer, checking the other cabins for a spare not in use but to no avail, reluctantly, I went back to the officer and pried the  binoculars out of his hands, his limbs falling to his sides having lost their rigidity from the sudden movement.

Quietly, I exited the room and softly shut the door before picking up my pace and making my way back to the bridge.

"Hopefully I didn't miss a rescue while I was busy looking," I said to myself hopefully.

I quickly walked up the stairs to the bridge and made my way past the pilot house before freezing on the spot in shock of what I saw, a sight I was starting to lose hope in seeing.

It was a ship.

A huge ship sent to rescue me, little old disaster-causing probably haunted me, I'm certain that if I was holding the binoculars in my hand I would have dropped them on the floor, smashing them beyond the point of use, fortunately, they were safely dangling on my neck softly hitting my chest as I rushed to the port side to get a closer look.

The ship idle sailing next to me easily surpassed my super structure and just barely reached above my cranes, it appeared to be an aircraft carrier which surprised me even more, they would really send such an impressive piece of machinery just to save me.

I looked the ship over eagerly, looking for any identifying marks, perhaps I had met her before my resurrection but something I noticed halted me.

The ship while looking very clean and upkept, with brightly lit lights and small glimpses of familiar aircraft wing tips and a fresh American flag flying which made me smile just a little bit, then another equally sized flag with a style similar to the one above but with a symbol of an eagle in a striped crest with three stars and stripes, this one in a blue and faded teal colors but that wasn't the point.
