I stuck out my arms so Choeun could pile all the rolls of paper into my arms. Actually the pile isn't heavy but it's enough to block my view too at this rate. I started going down the backstage stairs toward the exit. I need to take these papers to the teacher's room first before selecting their contents, which greatly disturbs being behind the already narrow stage. I descended the stairs slowly, but I didn't really recognize this staircase, I had to be careful, otherwise... and what I was afraid would happen. The pile of paper in my hand fell off and my foot did not hit the steps properly. Ah no, did my appearance have to be messy on the first day of my introduction to the students?
"Miss, are you okay?"
I didn't fall. At least there's no feeling of pain. Someone caught me in his arms. I tried to stand up straight to see who my helper is. I saw him wearing his high school uniform and he was fixing his glasses. A handsome man with hair neatly combed back, he was tall and his skin was milky white. I don't know him, but I think Choeun knows who he is.
"I am alright."
Then we started picking up scattered papers together.
"Let me bring it to the teacher's room, miss," he said after we managed to collect all the papers.
"Thank you..."
"Dongsun hyong, where is our seat list in the hall?"
Another high school kid came over and bowed once to me after he talked to the student beside me.
"Ah yes, it's in my pocket, just take it. Please help me set the seat for a moment, I'm going to the teacher's room to put this first."
"OK."
Dongsun. So his name is Dongsun.
"Oh that one, it must be so embarrassing when I almost fell. I forgot to ask if your body was okay catching me at that time," I laughed shyly.
"I'm okay and miss doesn't feel heavy."
"I can't believe it, this is already in my fourth year teaching at school. At that time you were still in grade 1 of High School and now you have graduated."
"Time feels like flying indeed," Dongsun laughed, "and I remember miss' introduction that day. It feels as new as it was yesterday."
I don't understand why Dongsun invites me to reminisce now. Maybe it's because he feels sentimental because it's his graduation day. However, he has grown up in this school for about 12 years.
"And at night when someone teases miss?"
"Oh, that one!"
One thing that I hate and also like at the same time about this apartment that I bought 2 months ago is that there is quite a lot of street vendors around the apartment. I like their presence because it makes easier for me to buy food, but lots of drunk people hang around here too. I can't tolerate the smell of alcohol. I'm learning to like it, actually. How come I'm almost three-headed and I can't drink soju? But it turns out that the taste of soju is hard for my tongue to accept. I was limping because today was a long day at school and the distance from the bus station to my apartment was quite moderate. I hugged the book I had just bought and walked uphill towards my apartment. Now, like I just said, there is a bunch of ahjussi walking drunk. I hate their smell.
"Wow, there is a very beautiful woman."
I watched their steps warily as the four ahjussi swarmed me.
"Don't get in my way."
"Will you accompany us?" asked the ahjussi in front of me.
