It was late into the afternoon as Kasey slowly awoke, sluggishly leaving his bed. He stood and stretched before falling back onto his bed and laying there. Just as he was about to drift back off to sleep he felt a sudden weight on his stomach and jolted back awake. He looked down and saw his cat sitting on his stomach now grooming herself. Kasey groaned as he sat up causing his cat to fall off, she yowled and glared up at him fixing her fur. He rolled his eyes and left his room to grab some breakfast, excited for his summer vacation to finally start.
As he made his way through his small house as quietly as he could he still managed to attract the attention of his overactive little brother, Logan, who was immediately attached to his leg giggling maniacally. Kasey was too tired to care and dragged his legs forwards before turning the corner into the kitchen grabbing the box of cereal. He was pretty sure he heard his mom say something about how he should stop wasting his time sleeping but he was again, too tired to care. So he easily shrugged off what he assumed was her criticizing him more.
Kasey continued through the kitchen turning another corner into the living room, he sat down onto the couch and began eating his cereal while looking for a show. His brother sat next to him swaying back and forth, fidgeting with his hands. He also seemed to be talking but Kasey was not in a mood to listen so he just nodded his head with occasional "Oh yeah?" to keep Logan interested while he looked for a show to watch.
After a few minutes of browsing Netflix he decided to rewatch the best show from his childhood, possibly even the best show ever made. It featured Cat Girl, a misunderstood failed science experiment just trying her best to be a superhero and get by in life. He felt the nostalgia rush to his brain as he pressed play and heard the familiar intro. He was grinning happily in his own little world when someone interrupted him.
"Kasey are you listening to what I'm saying?" it was his mom, he lowered the volume on the tv and quickly apologized and asked for her to repeat herself. She did so, but not without a complaint "You should pay more attention to what I have to say, you know how much I hate repeating myself, you're 10 now and should be over this whole zoning into the tv thing, you aren't a baby anymore" Kasey just nodded intently waiting for her to get to the point.
Eventually she did and Kasey almost wished she kept complaining "I've decided to send you to a summer camp this year so you can get outside more often and work off that flab" Kasey looked down at his almost nonexistent stomach and wondered how that could be considered flab. He sat down his half empty bowl of cereal and began to protest when he was interrupted "There's no use complaining, I've already made the arrangements and signed you up for the program. You'll be starting in a week"
Kasey sighed, knowing it was pointless to even try reasoning with his mom. He stood up and headed into the kitchen, throwing out the cereal he didn't finish and putting his bowl in the sink. He began heading back to his room, and as soon as he closed the door he turned around and collapsed onto his bed, instantly passing out for a nap.
