"OH SO ADVENTUROUS!"

MR SCHUE HAD FELT THAT THE GLEE CLUB WERE SLACKING OFF A BIT and decided to try and motivate them with a bit of friendly competition.

Pointing towards a board he'd made, he introduced the lesson with enthusiasm, "competition!" He began, "everyone one of these people or elements was a champion in its own rights. But they use competing with each other to make themselves better."

"I don't see how lightning and an above ground swimming pool are in competition." Kurt frowned.

"Maybe Zeus and Poseidon had a fight." Katy whispered in reply, shrugging as Kurt turned to look at her in amusement, eventually agreeing this to be the most logical option.

Giving them a strange look, Mr Schue continued on, "just go with it. You guys have become complacent. You were great at the invitational, but you wanna up your game if you wanna get through sectionals." He told them, making Katy bite down on her lip slightly out of nervousness, "okay guys on the left side, girls on the right side."

With a little encouragement, the group started to move into their two groups. Giving them both a small wave and a pout, Katy shuffled from her natural position between Mike and Matt to stand next to Brittany. Eventually everyone was in the right place, except Kurt.

"Kurt. Boys team." Mr Schuester said firmly, making Katy frown. If Kurt felt more comfortable on the girls team then Mr Schue should let him be, she thought. But she didn't say anything as Kurt had already reluctantly moved across the room to stand with the guys. Eager to explain, he'd moved away from the board with a clap of his hands, "right. Two teams — boys versus girls — one week from today you will each perform a mash up of your choice."

"What's a mash up?" Puck asked, with a raised eyebrow.

"A mash up is where you take two songs and mash 'em together to make an even richer version of musical expression." Mr Schue explained, although Katy wasn't entirely sure it helped, "boys will perform on Tuesday, girls the next day. I want you to go all out. Costumes and choreography and everything. Whoever wins the competition gets to choose the number for sectionals."

Sticking her hand into the air immediately, Rachel wasn't going to let anything get in the way of her winning, "wait. Whose going to judge? Your gender makes you biased."

With Mr Schuester explaining the celebrity judge, the girls crowded together, filled with confidence and ambition. Especially when they looked over to see Finn practically sleepwalking and Matt and Mike more busy play fighting with Katy to bother about any competition.

SOMETHING WAS DEFINITELY UP WITH THE GUYS AND THE GIRLS COULD SENSE IT. Watching open mouthed as they performed an incredibly energy filled mash up of 'Its My Life' and 'Confessions', they tried to ignore Rachel's insistent whispered of 'I told you so's' and instead cheered on the guys, in a way that didn't make them look completely shocked at their efforts.

Unlike the rest of the girls, as soon as they'd finished, Katy was out of her seat, clapping and cheering like a maniac in support for her friends.

Upon this reaction, Mike was first to leave the stage to tackle his best friend in a hug, quickly followed by Matt. Squeezing her tight, they whooped along together and were quickly ambushed by the rest of the boys, forgetting their own strength and knocking Katy straight to the ground, where she found herself at the bottom of a massive pile, laughing out loud, out of both celebration and terror.

With everyone else gaping at the pile of people on top of Katy, Santana took it upon herself to pull them off one by one and rescue the small girl. Taking her seat back next to Tina, Katy straightened out her hair with a giggle, not noticing the wide eyed expressions of Tina and Mercedes, who were shaking their heads at her in amazement.

Finally sorting herself out, Katy leaned in towards Tina, "there's definitely something up with those guys."

Grimacing as Puck and Finn continually chest bumped each other, Tina nodded in agreement, "definitely." She agreed, shielding Katy as Matt and Mike dove back in for another hug.

KURT HAD TOLD THE GIRLS ABOUT HOW ALL THE BOYS USED DRUGS TO GET THEIR ENERGY AND THE GIRLS WERE FOLLOWING IN PURSUIT. As they made their way to the nurses office, Katy was already getting cold feet.

"I don't know if I wanna do this." She panicked, "I said I'd never do drugs."

"Oh you'll be fine." Santana brushed over her worry, "your brother probably does drugs all the time."

Turning round to face them, Mercedes let out a small chuckle, "she's not exactly Puck though is she? Not as... let's say as adventurous."

"Hey I'm adventurous!" Katy argued, "I came with you guys to the lake the other day! And I jumped in didn't I?"

"Oh so adventurous!" Brittany mocked, giving her a playful nudge in the side.

Holding her head up, Katy shrugged her shoulders slowly, "well maybe that's a good thing. I like being kinda sensible. Proves that I'm not just Puck's sister." She mumbled mainly to herself before shaking her head, "I'll do it. For the performance."

"For the performance!" Rachel repeated jollily, skipping past them and in through the door to meet Terri Schuester.

Handing them all out small cups and two pills, Terri seemed overly happy to Katy to be giving out drugs to kids. Looking distastefully down at the two pills, she bit the inside of her cheek and looked up to meet Terri's eyes in one last attempt to maybe get out of this, "are you sure we should be doing this?" She spoke up quietly, "I don't really want to end up acting as insane as the guys."

Giving her a reassuring smile, Terri was quick to put her at ease, not that it entirely worked, "oh it's over the counter, completely safe. I'm a nurse, you can trust me."

Eyeing her suspiciously for a second Katy took one last deep breathe as she watched everyone else swallow the pills and then squeezed her eyes shut to swallow them herself.

After a moment, she'd already forgotten about why she was worrying and linked her arm in Tina's as they bounced out of the nurses office.

WITH THE VITAMIN D GIVING THE GIRLS THE MOST ENERGY THEY'D EVER HAD, IT WAS ALMOST TIME FOR THEIR MASH-UP

WITH THE VITAMIN D GIVING THE GIRLS THE MOST ENERGY THEY'D EVER HAD, IT WAS ALMOST TIME FOR THEIR MASH-UP. All the nerves Katy would usually have about performing had disappeared into a cloud of confidence and despite her train of thought being completely messed up, she imagined that this was what being drunk felt like.

Grabbing the sides of her yellow dress, she swished it back and forward repeatedly, giggling to herself absentmindedly as Rachel began her speech.

"Thank you so much it really is a pleasure. Whilst the boys have chosen a selection of songs that cast an eye inward on the irresponsible life choices and sexual hunger of today's modern teens, we have chosen a selection of songs that speaks to the nation as a whole during these troubling times filled with economic uncertainty and unbridled social woe. Because if there's two things America needs right now, that is sunshine and optimism." She said, practically all in one breathe, pausing slightly, "Also angels."

Mr Schue and celebrity judge Miss Pillsbury looked astounded, just nodding for the girls to continue.

With high praise being immediately thrown at them, the girls began squealing to each other in excitement. Running over, Katy took Brittany in her arms, kicking her leg back slightly as she lifted her easily off the ground.

As everyone else ran off stage, Katy pulled away from Brittany's grip and bounced down each step individually. Ripping off her yellow headband, she gently placed it on Mike's head. Holding onto his shoulders she smiled to herself, "there you go. You look pretty now." She whispered.

"Thank you?" He replied, amused as she patted the top of his head and skipped off after the rest of the girls, not without crashing right into the door frame though.

MR SCHUE HAD GOTTEN INTO TROUBLE FOR THE GLEE CLUB'S USE OF DRUGS AND HE WAS FURIOUS. Standing together in a small huddle, the group felt terrible.

Of course, Rachel stood forward to make the apology on behalf of the group, "we're really sorry Mr Schue, we didn't mean to get you into trouble."

Folding his arms across his chest, Mr Schue didn't seem to accept this apology, "I'm really disappointed in you guys. Glee club is supposed to be about what's in your heart, not whats coursing through your veins."

"We know." Rachel told him, looking round at the solemn group, "and I speak for everyone when I say that we're happy to put this whole episode behind us."

"It's not that simple. Because of this debacle, it's been decided that I'm not fit to run glee club myself." He informed them, his voice full of disapproval, "we've been assigned a co-director."

By the loud sigh that came from Mr Schue's lips, the group could tell this wasn't going to be good. And their assumptions were confirmed when Coach Sylvester waltzed through the door with a wicked smile on her face.

"Hey kids!" She cheered, her devilish beam becoming a bit scary to the group, who weren't used to seeing her actually smiling at them in a way that didn't look completely evil, "I've gotta tell you, I'm completely thrilled to be coming on board to co-captain your little showbiz cruise! I can't wait to start singing and dancing and maybe putting on the Ritz a little bit!"

The New Directions just looked at each other. They all knew that as long as Sue was co-director, they'd all have to watch their backs for when she'd turn on them in her year long attempt to bring the glee club down.
