I glanced at him "you know i wont say anything whatever it is right?"

He went quiet for a second "what ever you say slone"

Arvin pulled into the school parking lot stopping by the side doors, he took a drag of his cigarette

I followed his eyes watching tommy and a girl walk out of the school toward the buses "stay here" arvin opened his door

I leaned back in my seat watching him walk across the parking lot toward the buses "if you get caught" i mumbled shaking my head

He knocked on the bus door, i narrowed my eyes seeing tommy stand up in between the rows of seats, he walked down the rows and reached out to close the door and arvin grabbed him

I turned my head looking down at my nails, i heard the girl scream, after a few minutes everything settled and arvin opened his car door

"Feel better?" I asked grabbing a rag

"Not yet"

"Give me your hand" i took a water bottle from the cup holders and put a bit of water on the rag

"Im fine" he started the car

"Dont be stubborn"

"I prefer proud" he said mockingly putting his hand in mine

I wiped off his knuckles as the radio played softly in the background "i was trying to be quiet and to think of what you said just before the lamps were lighted" i sung along

Arvin narrowed his eyes at the road leaning farther back in his seat

"Just before the children came when my room was very quiet i heard someone call my name" i finished wiping his knuckles and let his hand go

Arvin ran a hand through his hair "thanks" he mumbled pulling down a driveway, he parked at the side of a building and opened his door

"Hey" i grabbed the sleeve of his jean jacket "leonora and emma would probably prefer it if you came back in one peice so if you could just try not to get broken it would be appreciated"

"Ill try my best, no promises though" he smiled at me, i let his sleeve go and he shut the doors, i couldnt hear anything other then the song on the radio i just seen arvin shut the hood of the car down twice on orville

The rain started pattering down on the roof of the car, arvin opened his car door and sat down breathing hard shaking "You tell me if they lay a hand on you or leonora again" he gripped the steering wheel with one hand wide eyed

I nodded, he reached down to grab the rag wrapping it around his fist still shaking, "let me" i softened my tone, i took his hand and started wiping off his knuckles, i flipped his hand over unclenching his fist then i kissed his knuckle "i have frog bandaids at home you'll look like a badass wearing them" i said sarcastically kissing his middle knuckle

He looked at me still breathing hard and scoffed "i aint going to need em but i appreciate the offer" he started the car

"Well your getting them anyways because i said so" i kissed his last knuckle and let his hand go

We pulled up to the church and leonora came off the steps sliding into the front seat, i slid down farther in the seat terrified my father would see me

"Sorry i didnt come today" arvin apologized

"Its okay i know theres other things you wanna be doing probably" she paused "so i can come on my own from now on"

Arvin nodded and started driving, leonora looked back and smiled at me then looked at the church straight faced

"Want me to drop you off at home?" Arvin asked looking at me in the mirror

"Not really but yes please" i sat back up normally in my seat

"Did you 2 have a good afternoon?" Leonora asked

"Yeah your brother showed me a few places around the town, yall have the greenest trees ive ever seen" i looked out the window

"They are somethin huh" leonora looked out her window

We rode in silence for a while, arvin stopped the car when we got half way "ill see you guys tomorrow" i smiled grabbing my bag leaning forard hugging leonora

She hugged me back "get in fast so you dont catch a cold"

"See ya arvin" i smiled at him "you want a hug too?" I teased

He rolled his eyes "your annoying you know that?" He looked at me

I put my arms around him from behind "night guys" i opened the door and slid out squinting as the rain pelted down
