Jemma was born in a place called Herity Town, a compact, rural area, where many people lived for it being rural. Her mother was a human who had met up with what was a cat monster, who were happy together before the war of humans and monsters had started. When the war was over, the monster had been pulled away from her mother, abandoning her. Soon, she had approached another guy, and the two had met up together, soon hooking up. After a while, her mother found out about being pregnant, and she told the guy she had recently hooked up with, and the two stayed together. The mother was finally satisfied again, having someone who embraced her and she loved back, and a baby who was on the way. Woefully, this did not last long, once the baby was born, it was obvious the baby wasn't the guy's baby, as proven by the cat ears and matching tail. He immediately got mad, cursing out her mother, and forsaking her instantly without hearing the mother's side. Holding the baby in her arms, she couldn't help but feel anger towards it. This baby would always be a constant reminder of her previous boyfriend who had just left her and the cat monster who was ripped away from her. As she drove home with the baby strapped into a car seat in the back row, wicked thoughts entered her mind. How much she wanted to hurt the baby, punish it for being a burden of her existence. But...she could never convince herself to do that. She cared too much about the baby to hurt it. So, to prevent herself from hurting it, she put her into an orphanage and never looked back. Jemma never got to find out who her mother was.
Jemma spent her life in the orphanage. No parent or couple ever adopted her, and for a long time, she never knew why. One day, when seeing a couple walk by, she overheard their conversation with the worker. "Well, how about her?" They asked the couple. "That freak? As if. Why are you even keeping her here? She should be thrown in the mountain with the rest of those monsters." She heard one of the people talk back. Peeking around the corner, she saw them leave. She didn't know what to think. She had never been called a freak before. Kids in the orphanage usually left her alone, not bothering to talk to her. After that day, she suddenly heard everything. Everything the kids would say behind her back. "Freak." "Mistake." "She doesn't belong here." Everything everyone would say. She would spend her days sitting in a secluded corner, not wanting to hear anything else anyone said about her, hiding her face in her knees, covering her ears up, sniffling and crying, letting her tears fall from her face. She tried not to let anything get to her, but the remarks behind her back just seemed to pile up more and more until she couldn't hold her tears in any longer. She just cried and cried, eventually falling asleep in that corner, drifting off into her mind.
When Jemma turned 5 years old, she was transferred to a public school that wasn't too far from her. At this age, Jemma was tired of being around kids her age, but still found a hint of optimism for meeting new kids at this school. She found herself more energetic, skipping into the school happily after the bus dropped them off. Looking around the cafeteria, she was escorted into, she smiled excitedly, waiting to meet her classmates and teacher. It was clear to her that other kids were looking at her funnily, but she didn't care. Her excitement was unmeasurable at that moment. She simply waited for her new school life to begin. "Hey there." She heard a gentle voice. She turned to the voice, seeing a rather tall adult knelt to her level. "Oh! Hello! I'm Jemma!" She said out excitedly. "I'm Ms. Rodgers. I'll be your teacher." She greeted with a smile. "Hello, Ms. Robbers." Jemma had exclaimed by mistake. The teacher just chuckled in response. "Rodgers." She corrected. "Hehe, sorry." Jemma apologized. "It's ok Jemma. Umm, we have a no hats policy here, so I'll need you to take off your headband." The teacher told her softly. Jemma gave her a confused look before realizing what she meant. "Oh! This isn't a headband! These are my ears!" She said, flickering her ears to show her. The teacher simply watched her do this and reached to her ears, giving them a soft tug. "Huh...so they are." She frowned slightly. Jemma tilted her head confused. "Is something wrong?" She questioned. "No, nothing is. I should go greet the other student." She said quickly, getting up and heading off. "Oh, ok!" Jemma waved her goodbye. 'This is gonna be good.' Jemma thought to herself happily.
