Chapter one

Levi Schmitt couldn't be happier. Two years into a new job in Boston and he was thriving. In Boston, he wasn't Glasses. He wasn't Blood Bank. He was Doctor Schmitt, a trauma attending and no one knew him as any different. Apart from one person. Nico Kim. Even after two years of not being with Nico, he found his heart beating fast every time he heard his voice over the phone. Every time he saw him smile over face time. Every time they brushed hands when they met up, his heartbeat would start to speed up as he felt the achingly familiar spark. Two years and he still wanted Nico Kim.

After a year, Nico had received a job with the New England Patriots and had moved out to Boston as well. Levi had found himself to be happy at the idea of Nico living in the same area and from there, the mutual feelings on both sides only flourished. But it wasn't until The Incident that Levi had decided to act upon the feelings that he was harbouring. Levi and Nico had gone out to a restaurant to celebrate two years of Levi living in Boston. They had ordered their food and Levi remembered watching in horror as Nico's eyes rolled back into his head and he started to seize. Nico's seizures had been few and far between in the years since Levi moved and this one had been the first one that Levi had been present at since the breakup. He'd panicked, memories flashing before his eyes of the countless times he'd seen Nico seize before and this had slowed his reaction time as a doctor. Nico had hit his head on the table as he collapsed to the floor and the doctor part of Levi had sprung into action upon seeing this, knowing that a seizure combined with a head trauma, even a slight one, could have been dangerous.

When Nico had awoken several hours later in a hospital bed, he had found Levi curled up next to him, asleep and clutching his hand. Levi had awoken to find a semi-conscious Nico grinning sleepily at him and he found himself falling in love all over again. And he has let the spur of the moment overtake him and he'd found himself asking Nico out on a date. Which had taken both of them by surprise. But that didn't stop Nico from breaking out into a big smile and weakly nodding.

Three years after the bedside confession and the couple were going strong. The walls that Nico had found himself building during his prolonged illness slowly came down and he found himself letting Levi in further than he had during their previous attempt at a relationship. After only two years, he suprised himself by asking Levi if he would want to move his things into Nico's apartment permanently to which Levi had responded by throwing himself into his boyfriends arms and giving him a passionate kiss.

A year of living together and Levi still found himself learning new things about his boyfriend. The way that he wasn't a morning person like Levi was. The way that the only way to make Nico a semi-reasonable person in the morning was to wake him up with a coffee. The little nervous twitches that were present on his team's game days. The signs of stress that if went unchecked could lead to a seizure. But the part that Levi found himself loving the most was the evenings when they were both home and Levi wasn't on call. The TV would be on, playing a football game that only Nico would be watching. Levi would be curled up on the edge of the couch, reading whatever book interested him, the TV barely registering in his mind. It would be peaceful and and at some point, Levi would feel Nico resting his head in his lap. Without even looking up from his book, Levi would start to run his hand through Nico's hair and by the time the game finished, Nico would be asleep in his lap.

Levi found himself to be at his happiest in this moments where he found himself thinking that his life couldn't get more perfect than this. But several months later, his little bubble shattered. He found himself losing his appetite, instead choosing to pick at his food rather than eat it. He started to experience headaches that would reduce him to tears and cause him to start throwing up. Nico had been gently pushing him to go to the hospital, the fact that both of them being doctors meaning that they were both immediately started jumping to the worst conclusion.

So that is how Levi found himself sitting in the doctors office a few days later, hands twisting in his lab. The door creaked open and a young woman stepped into the room, clutching a clipboard in her hands. Looking down at the clipboard, she glanced at Levi and asked, 'Levi Schmitt?" Levi licked his lips and nodded his head in response. "Okay, Levi. Well I have some news for you. Are you ready?"
