Strings: The Unspoken Bond

 " Lucas ! dont you dare touch the pie before Dylan arrives. "  warned Min. As if Lucas would listen, he dipped his fist into the pie as soon as Min walked away to answer a call ,he smeared it all over the kitchen counter and found his escape to his room . He obviously didn't want to devour it . Poor Min , sometimes I'm grateful to be a single child . Min showed up after minutes, she's not even surprised to see the mess , I bet she saw it coming as she sighed and brought out another pie. " I'm sorry , I should have stopped him but he's such a gumball I couldn't say no" I laughed getting up from the couch . " It's a relief you had a back up , must be tiring ." Min would give him a good hearing time to time but never genuinely got mad at Lucas ,not even once since the day he was adopted . 

Park Min Ji and I have been friends for years now ,as far as my earliest memory goes ,not sure of the chronological order but she's always in the picture . She's more than a childhood friend , more than a bestfriend . I dont have words to name it but she means everything to me . 2 years old Lucas joined her when we were 17 , It's been four years since he's with the Park family. 

" It smells like pie in here. " entered Dylan , " I bought some beer and soju " he knows what Min likes. " You are late as always so pay for it " said Min and brings out her favourite set of drinking glasses. "Sure , I'll order us some chicken " as I mentioned ,he knows what exactly Min would like . Dylan is Min's best guy friend , atleast that's how she introduced him to me , they go to the same university , which I'm a bit jealous of anyways I'm 60 percent sure Dylan likes Min and Min is clueless, but I will continue playing dumb until I get the remaining 40 percent assurance. To be honest I enjoy Dylan's company, he makes sure everybody is having a blast and most importantly Lucas loves him , I was Lucas's favourite until Dylan happened . 

We had few drinks , I was incharge of driving myself and Dylan back so I was pretty sober .              " There you go now get off , or do you want me to walk you to your fornt door " I sighed. " Can I ask you for a favour ? " asked Dylan " I know you are the only person who can make it happen."   " What now?" I replied . "It's about Lucas" he said with a concerned look on his face, maybe he was too drunk but I'm pretty sure he can handle his alcohol well "Go on " I replied . " I want to take him to a basketball match and I know Min would never allow me to take Lucas without her or you being there with Lu ....so.." he hesitated  . " You want me to accompany you and Lucas to a basketball match ? "  I exclaimed . " Yes kind of .. I mean you dont have to come along if you feel bothered , you just have to lie so that Min won't be concerned " he explained. " Wait a minute , so you want me to lie to Min and drop you and Lu off to a match ? Are you nuts ? and don't tell me you are taking him to the match with that family again !" I exclaimed in annoyance . "See ! I know its easy to fool Min but not you so I wanted to be honest with you , just one last time and I wont bother Lu or Min anymore ! ". He exclaimed . "Dylan... I want Min to be happy too but this just feels wrong and Lu is one of her source of happiness, don't take that way from her . We talked about it before and I don't want to talk about it again , I'm concerned as much as youare, but I would love to respect her descision  ". I replied . " But we both know it's for the best , you know she is struggling and she doesn't like asking for help so don't you think we should give it a last shot ? " he asked . " I don't think we have the right to make this descison on our own ." I answered ." That is why is need you to change her mind... just one last time " he begged . " Go back in , its getting cold . We should talk tomorrow ..when you're sober " I replied . Maybe he was hurt that I didn't take his words seriously but it wasn't easy for me to take this matter casually and drunk talk about it. 

I drove back home but I couldn't get out of my car. My mind isn't where it's suppose to be and this lingering fear of hurting your loved ones scared me . I sat there for hours and before I knew I was infront of Theo's house .I knocked mindlessly , I should have called him before showing up . Theo opened the door and hugged me warmly ,he was followed by his boyfriend, Mike .He was worried to see me in tears, he wipped it and led me to the living room. I sat there ... silently... I didn't bother saying a word  , moments later his boyfriend passed me a warm cup of chamomile tea and left both of us alone , I didn't like Mike at first but now things have changed, he treated Theo better which Theo absolutely deserved . " Do you need anything else, Kai   ?" Theo worriedly asked . " No , I'm fine ... I'm sorry for bothering you this late ...I ... I just didn't know where else to go....I.. " I sobbed . " It's really okay  don't worry, Mike was about to leave too . Stay here for the night , I will arrange the room and talk to me when you feel better ." He implied , walked me to the room and gave me a goodnight hug and left worriedly . I love the fact that he didn't ask me much of why I was in that state , he probably knew that I won't be able to answer at the moment with the piled up emotions. Theo is an angel living among us in disguise , I don't think we deserve him. I would go to his place once in awhile to either send him sweets which he loved to death or to seek for his comfort whenever I'm not being my sane self . Was it the familiarity of the house or Was it Theo's warm affection that made me feel alive again  ?  

I used to live with Theo , we were roomates for last 3 years. I met him in class , we got along as we had lot in common and we did enjoyed each other's company , when I talked about having trouble finding a room near uni he offered me to stay at his place . It was quite shocking but he immediately mentioned that he was gay and had a boyfriend and if I felt uncomfortable I could always move out . The next day he even visited my parents and took their permission for me to stay with him  .

 He was the owner of house but he never acted like one. He dressed smart and all , he ate fancy cuisines which of course his rich parents who he rarely talked about provided him . He wasn't upset or troubled with all the money and luxury he was surrounded with but he wasn't happy either...  I moved back to my parents', recently as I had to take care of Granny . My parents insisted that I should focus on my studies and only visit them once in awhile but I had plenty of time to finish my graduation so decieded to stay with Granny. We knew she didn't have much time left but we never talked about it . Theo visited us quite often too , he wished to eat Granny's cookies again . He would often have heartfelt conversation with her , I don't know what they talked about but I could see genuine happiness in Granny's eyes whenever he visited.    

I woke up to a knock at the door   " Kai ,I didn't want to wake you up but Come downstairs for brunch , its 2 in the afternoon right now  .. you should eat ."   To my surprise we were joined by Dylan and Min at the table . "So you finally learned to cook a decent meal. " Dylan mocked Theo ."  I had to after Kai left I had no choice , she was incharge of cooking. " Theo replied smiling at me ." You could have easily got yourself a cook , you know " I said .  " I don't think I'm that incapable of cooking that I would need a cook and also they still send me expensive stuffs to eat which i can refrigerate for the next morning's meal"  Theo replied . " Now you're braging " I joked, he still doesn't refer them as his parents but a pronoun 'they'. 

"That was a good meal ,  . I will help you with dishes " Min insisted . Theo and Dylan talked while I was doing dishes with Min . " Is something bothering you Kai?" Min asked " Did something happened between you and Dylan last night ? You won't be here if nothing's wrong ."   I decided to let it go " We need to talk " I said and took her to the living room where Dylan and Theo joined us .
