The flutter and calls from thousands of birds slowly come to match one rhythm, a uniform rhythm, not much of a rhythm at all, becoming louder and louder. It pierces through her ears, no matter how hard she covers them. The birds flock around her, clouding everything she sees in black feathers.
She silences the alarm with a single tap, giving her head peace again. The room is dark around her, only tinted with the purple glow bleeding through the smooth curtains. The stars decorating the ceiling are still holding some shine from before she went to bed, turning the small bedroom into her own personal sky. One day, she always thinks. One day she'll paint the whole room with glowing paints, one day it'll be more than just a few stars. One day... just not today.
Her legs stretch out from under the blankets, slowly placing her feet on the cooled floor. Bending back, she forces her spine to give a few cracks, releasing a pleased sigh as she pushes off the mattress. With heavy eyes and limbs, she drags herself to the wall-long curtains that cover the entirety of the round window. Their fabric feels as rough as always between her fingers, something she in a way appreciates. She pulls them apart in one swift movement, showering the room in the vast view of space and the little planet called Earth.
"Remi, turn on some music, would you? Whatever is fine." She yawns as he steps into the kitchen, already kicking the fridge open. "Good morning Haylem, here's a personalized playlist of songs from the early 23rd century, I hope you slept well." The robotic voice answers from its speaker in the wall, quickly followed by the softly playing music. Haylem's hands pause holding onto the box of eggs, her pastel blue eyes stuck in place. "Actually... I had a pretty weird dream, but yeah, otherwise it was good." She lets go of the box, cracking two eggs into the pan where they immediately start sizzling. "Oh my, I'll love to hear about that later." The room goes quiet as the Remi thinks, enhancing the sound of the popping eggs. "I've checked your schedule and you have no plans before noon. The closest event on your calendar is dinner with Keith at 7:30 PM, would you like me to set a reminder?" Remi asks. "Yeah, remind me... 30 minutes before." Haylem responds, perking her lips as she carefully nudges an egg. "Sure; setting a reminder for 7 PM." Remi ends off, releasing a gentle ping.
"Any good news?" Haylem speaks up again, furrowing her eyes as one of the yolks puncture. "Mars-Mart has a discount on Green's brand filets, a recent hole in the hull has been fixed and Starry Hub has put the Mango Twist back on their menu." Remi answers after a bit. "Oh hell yeah, remind me to get one some time." Haylem almost yells on an excited tone, quickly evolving to a loud groan as the second yolk bleeds over the pan. "Setting a random reminder to get a Mango Twist. Keep in mind that they contain approximately 25 grams of sugar per glass." A sharp breath of air pushes out her nose. "Yeah, you don't have to remind me about that part." Haylem giggles, scooping the failed eggs onto a plate. "It is part of my responsibility to watch out for your health, but if you say so." Comes the answer, followed by another ping.
Dropping herself onto a chair, Haylem eagerly gobbles down the eggs, swinging her legs as she hums to the music. She looks down her bare legs, only then realizing the danger she had put herself in by cooking in only a shirt and underwear. "Eh." She muffles, shoving another bite of egg into her mouth. "Careful you don't eat too quickly now." Remi cuts in, getting a charming fart noise from Haylem in response. "I haven't choked on anything yet, have I?" She adds, swallowing the last bite and pushing her chair back. "No, but one time will always be the first and we wouldn't want it to be the last either." The AI's voice is drowned out as the plate and cutlery are dropped into the dishwasher. "Yeah, yeah, I'll go get dressed." Haylem exclaims, already in the other room away from the small speaker.
"Now... what to wear?" She speaks to herself, pulling the oversized pale shirt over and off her head, tossing it to the floor. Her hands dig through the pile dumped on the floor across the last month, pulling out a cotton button-up shirt. "Yes." She holds it in front of her chest, smiling at the long clothing, it might as well be a dress. The soft fabric is laid across her shoulders seconds later, the buttons closing up. One misses its proper hole, the top one gets left open. She yanks a pair of dark leggings from the pile, stepping into one hole, getting her foot stuck in the second hole as she jumps towards the bathroom door.
She shoves the toothbrush around her mouth for just long enough to drown the taste of egg, forcing a comb through her messy brown hair. Spitting into the sink and clearing her mouth with water, she briefly stares down her reflection. Just any other young lady. As much as people talk about her gorgeous blue eyes, she's still simply a girl with rock-brown hair. But it's not like she would want it any other way, she likes being exactly who she is. With her tongue stuck out, she fumbles around the rooms, holding her messy top-bun in place. "Remi, where did I put the uh... hair... things?" Haylem yells through the apartment pod, stepping into her shoes barefoot, as usual. "You often leave elastics by the door with your keys." Remi answers, exactly as Haylem grabbed for her keys, getting a bundle of slightly hairy rings with her. "Ah, thanks." She mumbles as the rings are slowly untangled, deciding to pull out a single red one and setting it up in her hair. "Going out, see ya later Remi!" The door slams shut before the AI can respond, leaving it to pause itself. "Shutting off lights. Locking door. Activating AC."
