Types of Break Up: The Mutual Break Up

Dahyun and Nayeon met on a blind date their mutual friends had set up for them. It's not like they were too old and too desperate that they agreed on that immediately, they just wanted to have someone to lean on at that time and would probably occupy most of their time away from the stress the world has yet to bring.

At first, they were awkward, eating in the fancy restaurant, could barely look in each other's eyes, and hopeless. They thought they were hopeless and awkward and the date would pass by without talking. Not until Dahyun slipped on their way out of the restaurant, accidentally or not, it brings laughter to Nayeon. Dahyun blushed in embarrassment but couldn't help but say how beautiful she was when she laughs even though the laughter itself was scary, that brings another round of laughter from the older.

The thought of being hopeless has bloomed into something else. They enjoyed their date going into an amusement park and came back from being a kid— which they badly wanted to happen even before and it was really a dream come true that night.

Their blind date has followed by another date to another and to the point that they couldn't count how many dates they had gone through. Until they found themselves falling, seeking each other's presence, inseparable and disgustingly sweet. They stick to each other through hard times and good, to sickness and health, that the people around them suggests that they should marry, but the two would only laugh it off.

Their relationship was going smoothly in the past two years that they were together: shared apartment filled with laughter; cuddles and kisses every morning; lovely dates every possible time; and happy memories.

It's almost perfect. They're almost perfect. Not until the sparks, the butterflies, the sweetness of being in a relationship has all fizzled out. Their relationship became dull, though they weren't fighting and still living together, they could feel that they are not happy, at least not like they were before.

They are still sleeping in each other's arms, waking up seeing each other's faces, laughing with each other's antics and jokes, but it was just that. No more special feelings, no more hugs in too much happiness but instead strike on her arms or everywhere— like what friends do.

"What's your plan?" Chaeyoung asked her softly, hugging her side with her head on her shoulder.

Dahyun couldn't help but compare the feeling of Nayeon's hug to her best friend. And surprisingly, there's no difference. Aside from the fact that Nayeon can engulf her whole body because she's taller while Chaeyoung only can do half. But the feeling... Just all the same.

"I.. Honestly don't know," Dahyun answered solemnly, she closed her eyes and massaged her head. "What should I do, Chaeyoung?"

Chaeyoung detached herself from Dahyun, she settled herself on the other side of the couch and stared seriously at her stressed best friend, "Do you still love her?"

"Of course, I do." She answered without a beat. "I always love her. She's amazing. Perfect. Everything that you can ask for.." She stops.

"I can feel a 'but' coming," Chaeyoung commented.

"But, the butterflies, the slow motion, the fireworks, the warmth of her love, the feeling that the world is meant for you and her alone... Those feeling were gone. I do not feel all of those with her anymore. It turned into..like us. No more special feelings." She continued, frustrated at her own feelings.

Chaeyoung squints her eyes and hit Dahyun with the nearest pillow, "So you mean our relationship is nothing special? I've been with you through your worst and I'm nothing special?" She asked in disbelief and hit Dahyun again.
