     It was cold.

(Y/N)'s blanket, warm from her body heat couldn't even prevent the cold from seeping into the barrier of the thick cotton. The cold air softly caresses her torso as she wrapped the blanket tighter around her semi-naked self, shivering. With one thought in mind, she turned her back towards the wall and were about to reach her hand over to wrap the person that should have been sleeping soundly beside her when she realized no one was there.

The space beside her free of wrinkles and hints of anyone's presence.

(Y/N)'s brow raised tiredly before she pushes herself up from the bed. She thought the wind was a little too strong tonight. Curtains were blown so high up its a wonder it hasn't been blown off. Through the howling of the wind, her hoarse voice called out into the dark.

     "Shinobu?"

     Silence.

(Y/N) repeated once again, this time louder than the previous. Still nothing. The only reply she got was the incomprehensible howling of the wind and the occasional creaks from her door. She groaned slightly as she crawled her way to the window before slamming it shut with a thud. The curtain dropped back down to the side when the air in the room turned still and silent.

"Much better." She sighed and were about to fall back to bed when the vacant space on the bed greeted her. It was 3 in the morning. There's nowhere she could go at this time. All the stores aren't even opened - excluding the convenience store. Random thoughts flooded her drowsy mind and she was now wide awake accompanied by the silence of the room.

Extending her hand to grab the phone by her nightstand, she dialed Shinobu's number. It rang a few times before 'the number you have dialed is not in service' message was played. A frown made its way up (Y/N)'s face as she continued to stare at the number she had punched into her phone. She didn't dial wrong, that's for sure.

"The hell is going on?" She murmured quietly before trying to call the same number again and again. The line just doesn't go through. Since when did she change her number and when did she changed it? The call log still has the record of their conversation from hours ago.

Shinobu might have some emergency situation to deal with. (Y/N) reasoned with herself. She's a grown up after all. She'll know how to take care of herself. With that thought in mind, she drifted back to sleep.

"(Y/N), what will you do if I just suddenly disappear?"

"I wouldn't really want to think about it."

"You need to be logical, (Y/N)."

"None of these is anywhere close to logical, Shinobu."

The morning sun shone brightly into her sealed room, penetrating even the curtain that she had bought for the sole purpose of shading her room. (Y/N) shuffled, missing the warmth of another figure against hers. The spot beside her was still empty and it didn't look like anyone had entered her room. She stifled a yawn and made her way over to the washroom.

It didn't take long for (Y/N) to get dressed and she went downstairs in hope of seeing the missing person there by the couch, smiling and watching the television. Much to her disappointment, the figure there was of her dad's with a newspaper in his hand and a cigarette in his mouth.

"I told you to not smoke in here. Get outside." She said in annoyance while waving her hand in front of her face to get rid of the awful smell. How in the world do people love smoking when it literally smelt like shit. The newspaper rustled before his rough voice spoke up. "I didn't know you were there. Morning."

"Yeah, morning but that doesn't mean you can smoke the whole bottom floor beforehand." (Y/N) coughed out a little, feeling the rough particle of the smoke slowly sticking onto her pipe. He stubbed out the cigarette and puffed out one last cloud of smoke before standing up.

"Where's your girlfriend?" From his tone, (Y/N) knew he hadn't seen her since dinner last night. She shook her head as he walked towards the counter, pouring himself a glass of water to soothe his throat. He eyed her daughter weirdly as she poured out the cereal and milk into a bowl.

Maybe your nightmare came true today?  Her mind whispered.

As much as (Y/N) loves to confidently shrug it off, she knew Shinobu wasn't someone who would just leave without a notice. Maybe.....

Just perhaps, she was really not here anymore?
