Superman 2020

Origin

The planet Krypton began to fall apart. Chunks of the surface blew out in volcanic booms. Entire civilizations began to fold in on themselves. Only sections of the planet remained safe for mere moments before becoming disaster zones. On top of the largest mountain of Krypton was a large observatory. The side of the base opened up like a hangar, a rocket slowly emerged from it. Standing on the platform were Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, the parents of heroism. "He will be the hero we all needed, my dear." Jor-El said placing his hand on the rocket window, where his son was clearly visible. "But the rest of the universe won't be as so blind as we were." A sigh escaped his mouth as he looked back at Lara, feeling tremors under his feet as the catastrophe came for them. The two lovers looked at each other, locking eyes as the starship took off for another world.

"I love you, Jor-El." Lara said taking her husband's hands into her own, meeting his lips with her own. As the sounds of the starship engine grew fainter, the sounds of armageddon grew louder.  The last things Lara felt were her husband and the ground fall out from under her...

Across space, the rocket traveled towards the planet Earth on a lonesome journey. Turning past the sun, the pod was in clear shot for America.

WHAM! The pod touched down in the barren Texan fields. Immediately, dog barks filled the air. Smoke filled the scene, hiding the ship. It descended into a fog to look common in the night.

A large blue jeep pulled up to the crash site. The lights shined upon the fog and into an unknown pair of eyes, making a cry below out in the night. The Jeep's driver door flung open and a bearded man with a shotgun jumped out and approached the ditch in his field.

"What is it, John?" A female voice cried from the car. The man looked back at the Jeep before descending into the fog.

"Sweet mercy." He gasped as he saw a small kid in a blue blanket all alone in the night. He used the sling on the shotgun to wear it, flicking the safety back on in the same motion. He kneeled down towards the ship and scooped the baby out of it. The kid went silent almost immediately. The woman from the car ran out and looked at John shocked. He looked back up at her and smiled. "Martha, its just a baby boy!" He said astatic. The woman joined next him and smiled. Tears swelled in her eyes as John gave her the baby.

"Clark." Martha said looking up at her grown son, wearing his Superman suit on the deck of their house. "Make pa proud." More tears crept down her cheek in pride.

"I will, Mom." Clark said walking off the deck and into the field. Superman's red cape blew in the air divinely. He looked up in the sky, soaking in the sun before he embarked on a new adventure. From the back of his ear, he heard an accident in the making miles away. A gust of wind blew Martha's hair back as he took off. Clark was high in the sky, passing over multiple neighborhoods a second. A poor small car was headed for an unguarded train track, which was occupied by a large locomotive.

"Babe! Babe!" A teenage girl shouted smacking her boyfriend, who was texting and driving.

"Morgan, relax." The driver said shaking off the hits his fearful lover gave him. A loud scream filled the car as the man dropped his phone in anger. "WHAT?!" He shouted looking at her, briefly seeing the train in his eye. Looking back over, he gasped as his life was about to end.

Clark stopped the car and the train from colliding, damaging both. A rush of adrenaline escaped Clark as he looked over at the damaged vehicles, seeing everyone safe. Morgan climbed from the car and smiled at the costumed hero who was slowly taking off into the sky.

"Wait!" Morgan shouted waving her arms up. It didn't matter how far he was, Clark could still hear her. He stopped for the young girl, descending a bit to see if she was hurt.

"Is everything alright?" Clark asked still hovering over her.
⠀
"Who are you?" She asked eagerly, taking her phone out of her pocket to film the hero before her. Who was he? Kal-El? Clark Kent? This troubled him momentarily before a smirk poked out of the corner of his mouth.

"Superman."
