Chapter One

He had been searching for hours to the point where the sun had gone down and the city lights were blinding in the darkness of night before he finally got a lead as to where his wife would be. The fighter on Senator Amidala's platform just outside her apartment was a dead give-away. After skillfully parking his own ship next to Denali's, he quickly climbed out and made his way across the platform. Padme was sitting on her couch, wearing a comfy blue flowing dress with long sleeves made of satin and looking at something on her data-pad when she noticed his entrance. The look on her face wasn't a kind smile like it usually was when they met, instead it was a serious territorial glare as she got to her feet.

"The Council has no business being here, especially at this late hour. She is no longer your concern." Padme spat defensively, like any good friend would have. Thankfully, Obi-Wan didn't take her rough words personally. He knew that she was just trying to defend his wife.

"I'm not here on the Council's behalf." he explained defensively.

"Either way, Denali isn't seeing anyone. Please leave." Padme stated and turned her back on Master Kenobi. He grabbed her wrist, stopping her and causing her to look at him once again.

"Please, I need to speak with her-"

"And I've asked you kindly to leave. If you'll excuse me, I've had a very stressful day and am quite tired, Master Kenobi." She tried to get away once again, but he wouldn't let go of her wrist. He tried not to hurt her, but he couldn't let her escape without telling him anything, either.

"Please, Padme." His voice was desperate, something Padme had never heard from him before. It was quite odd, but after a second of thinking, the pieces all began to fit together. The longing look in his eyes, the need to speak with the woman he had been so close to in her time of need even when they had been teenagers on their first real mission together, how he always seemed happier when they were together and more at ease. It was all coming together now.

Obi-Wan was in love with Denali. He always had been ever since he first laid eyes on her.

"She's asleep in my guest bedroom right now." Padme told him, then sat back down on her couch and returned to her data-pad. He nodded his thanks, then nearly sprinted across the room to the hallway that lead to Padme's guest bedroom. His boots were soundless on the carpet as the bedroom door slid open with a silent HISS. He saw the hill in the blankets that covered his wife's body as she slept, the cloth rising up and down with each deep breath Denali took. She looked so peaceful, but he could sense that her dreams were filled with nothing but nightmares for a future she'd never have. Quietly, he kicked off his boots and pulled back the covers, laying down beside his wife. He wrapped his arms around her sleeping figure, causing her to stir.

"Obi....?"

He could see, even in the dim light, that her eyes were puffy  and blood-shot from crying constantly from the recent trauma she'd been through. She snuggled into his warm and loving embrace, knowing that it was the only place she would truly ever belong, and slowly began to drift off.

"Obi?" She muttered, half asleep.

"Hm?" He replied, burying his face in her long, sweetly scented, unbraided blonde hair.

"What are we going to do?...." she asked, slipping out of conciousness. His heart jumped into his throat at that question, because he honestly didn't know the answer. What would they do? Denali was no longer in the Order, but he was. Would he leave for her? So that she wouldn't be alone in the universe? Would they split up because he'd constantly be away- No, that wasn't an option. Splitting up would be like signing a death wish. No, they'd stay with one another. Until the end.

"We're going to stick together, no matter what happens." He whispered and gently kissed her forehead.

* * * * * * * * * *

The next morning when Obi-Wan woke up, he was alone. Denali wasn't by his side, which meant that she must've been in the living room or eating breakfast with Padme. He wasn't fazed by that at all as he pulled on his boots-

-until he remembered Padme.

She knew that he had spent the night.

He ran his hand through his hair and let out a long puff of air. How was he going to explain why he was still there without revealing his secret marriage? Padme would definitely be suspicious of whatever he said, no matter how realistic his excuse was. But maybe he was going about this all wrong. Maybe telling Padme wouldn't be such a bad thing. She was a senator, after all. They were famous for their ability to keep secrets. And who would she tell?

Denali and Padme were sitting across from each other at Padme's dining room table, a plate of hot eggs and fancy imported wraid bacon from Tatooine resting infront of her. Sitting on the table between the senator and the former Jedi was the bowl of eggs and plate stacked high with wraid meat, along with a clear pitcher of a purple liquid. Even though the wraid bacon didn't look very good, Denali had the fortune to find out that it tasted way better than it appeared. They drank a purple-colored juice that she had no idea what it was made out of, but personally didn't care since it tasted just as good as the rest of the food. It was obvious who had better meals provided for them between the Jedi and the Senators. The food at the Temple wasn't terrible, but it was easy to tell who had it best.

Padme was still in the dress she had been wearing the the previous night, her long blue one made of satin and had long sleeves, while Denali was wearing an outfit that she had barrowed from the senator. It wasn't too fancy, but it made her look younger, happier, and full of life. Instead of her robes, she was wearing a light green blouse with short sleeves, white capri pants, and white flats. Her hair was loose and flowing down her back, and was that make-up on her eyes?

"Good morning, Obi-Wan." Denali greeted warmly as she took a sip of her drink, a small smirk on her lips. Padme had a similar sly grin on her lips while she took a bite of her eggs, chewed, and swallowed. Obi-Wan stood beside Denali, one hand on her shoulder and the other hanging by his side.

"Good morning, Denali, Senator Amidala." He replied.

"How did you sleep, Master Kenobi?" Padme asked, making it known that she had the knowledge of where he had slept the night before.

The grin on her face was impossible to hide, but it wasn't an evil one that someone usually wore when they've gained important knowledge that would benefit themselves. It was more of a smile that a teenage girl would have after hearing that her best friend had gone on her first date and was aching for extra details.

"Quite well, actually. Thank you for asking." Obi-Wan informed her. "I take it Denali has told you our little secret?" He asked as he took a seat beside his wife.

"Yes, she has. And I have never been more happier for you two." Padme told him and gestured for him to take an empty plate and help himself to some breakfast. He nodded his thanks and began to scoop some eggs onto an empty plate as she continued to talk in an excited voice. "I should've guessed it, though. You two were such a perfect fit together that it seemed inevitable."

"Thanks, Padme." Denali smiled to her friend, then turned to Obi-Wan. "Padme was even kind enough to give me a job as her body-guard and is allowing me to live here with her, as well. Isn't that wonderful?" Obi-Wan was speechless.

"And the best part is that my apartment is only a short ship-ride away from the Temple. That way you can visit Denali whenever you'd like." Padme beamed.

"Isn't this wonderful, Obi-Wan?" Denali asked. But Obi-Wan couldn't speak.

He was too busy watching as a third fighter parked next to Denali's and his own.

Anakin.

This was going to get interesting really quickly.
