The Broken Flirt Who Never Loved: A Danganronpa Fanfic

Chapter 1

[A/N: First names after last. I ain't gonna put up with you @ing me so don't.]

[Aoi POV]

"I don't like you. So don't flirt at me." I stare in confusion at my friend, Sato Daichi who crosses his arms as I blink.

"I wasn't flirting at you. I fucking like you as a friend. Not as a boyfriend. I do have a fucking type." I snap and push my way out of the classroom.

"Wait, I didn't mean it like that!" He calls as I storm down the hall and I hold my middle finger up.

"Talk to the finger, shit-face!" I yell as my feet pound up the staircase.

I burst onto the roof, trying to not cry or scream. I'll let you figure out which one I succeeded at.

I sit on my haunches as I wipe my tears away and sniffle.

"It isn't my fault my body language makes it seem like I'm flirting. I didn't ask to have this stupid title. I never thought I flirted with anyone." I mutter as I sob softly.

I try to stop crying but I can't. I've been told those nine words, technically eleven if you count contractions as two words, too many times to count. It makes me so fucking mad and sad. And sadness is easier to show than anger for me.

After school Daichi walks towards me as I pull off my uwabaki (a type of Japanese slippers worn indoors at home, school or certain companies and public buildings where street shoes are prohibited) and pull on my sneakers.

I grab my bag as he reaches for my arm and I walk past him.

"Aoi, don't do this. We aren't going to have another power-struggle." He sighs as I walk out the gate and head towards my house.

I put in an application to go to Hope's Peak Academy so I hope I got accepted.

My mom stands outside our house and I start running as I see a letter in her hands.

"Is that!?"

"Yes! You got in!" I jump in the air, squeal and grin.

"Whooooohoooooo!" I yell as I snatch the letter and read it. I jump up and down excitedly as I finish reading the letter and I hop really high.

"We can go out to Red Robin for burgers as a congratulations." Dad says as I stop hoping and I pant.

"Whooo!" I pump my fist in the air before laughing and Dad ruffles my hair.

"You worked hard to get in." I nod before walking into the house and taking my shoes off.

I slide down the hall to my room, fall onto the bed and start laughing.

"Aoi, do you want to tell Akihiko?"

"Yeah! I'll go tell him now!" I run to the door, pull my shoes on and run down the road towards the hospital. Aki was in a car crash a few months ago and went into a coma so I visit him daily.

The nurses know me by name so I can go to Aki's room without a nurse to take me.

"Well, love. It looks like our dreams were achievable." I murmur once I finish reading the acceptance letter and I rub his hand softly. I stroke his face and smile as tears fill my eyes. I run my hand through his silky, shaggy red-brown hair, lean down and press a kiss against his forehead.

"'Cause I wanna touch you, baby and I wanna feel you, too. Make it up, fall in love, try but you'll never be alone. I'll be with you from dusk till dawn. Baby, I'm right here. I'll hold you when things go wrong. I'll be with you from dusk till dawn. I'll make sure I take photos so I can show you when you wake up." I whisper as I stroke his cheeks and tears drip down my cheeks.

I walk home, with my head down and tears dripping down my nose as I sniff and wipe my nose.

At four p.m I fall asleep and dream about Aki.

"Darling, you're amazing. I can't believe you got into Hope's Peak!! You're such an amazing person!!!" He says excitedly as he strokes my cheeks and I grab a handful of his hair.

"You're real."

"Darling, I'm still in the coma. It's just a dream."

"No. I wanted you to be real. Give me this, just, let me think you're real. Please?"

"I'm so sorry I got in the accident." He says sadly and I smile.

"So long as you visit me in my dreams I'll be fine!"

"I can't visit your dreams at Hope's Peak though." My face falls and he cups my cheeks. "Don't worry. I'll make sure you know when I wake up." He kisses me before disappearing and I wake up.

I start to cry as I clutch my chest and soon the tears stop.

I leave for Hope's Peak tomorrow so I pack my bags and lay on the bed staring at the ceiling until I fall asleep.
