She saw Hak move out of the corner of her eye, and held still as his spear cut through the men with ease.
Yona stared at the carnage, remembering how Soo-won had praised Hak's skills. She glanced over at Eri, who hadn't moved. What about you...?
It was at this moment that the leader of the attack made himself known. Kang Tae-jun stepped forward with a smirk. "I see you are still as strong as ever, Thunder Beast, Princess Yona..." His lip curled in disgust as he gazed at the last member of the group. "...Lady Eri."
"...who are you again?"
"WHAT!?"
"Princess, look, there are birds flying!"
"Ooh!"
"DON'T IGNORE ME!!" Tae-jun screamed indignantly. "Stop birdwatching when I talk to you, General Hak!"
Hak turned around, feigning confusion. "Oh, were you talking to me? Sorry, I'm not a general anymore, so..."
"Oh, well, it's fine if you understand-" Tae-jun blinked. "Wait, what do you mean you're not a general!?"
"That's right, I'm just Hak, a simple man of the road." He shrugged nonchalantly, before a cool grin spread across his face. "So whatever I do has no connection to the Wind Tribe."
He glanced at Eri, who rolled her eyes. "Yeah yeah, I'm no longer Lady Eri, nothing I do has to do with the Sky Tribe or old man Joo-doh. Happy?"
Hak looked back at Tae-jun. "Sorry about that, Mr. Second-Son."
"Hmm. I see." There was a beat, before Tae-jun smiled widely. "But I couldn't care less. I have business with the princess." He raised his sword, signalling to several archers up on the cliff.
Yona flinched as a fleet of arrows shot towards them, but Hak swung his spear, breaking them before they hit their marks. "Pull your weight, Eri!"
The young woman groaned. "Shut up, your spear is a lot better for that sort of thing." She twirled her sword and ran ahead.
Yona stared in awe as her friend easily engaged the men. Her sword and body were practically one as she cut the soldiers down in quick, decisive movements. She heard Hak give a low whistle. "She's gotten even faster."
He cut back a few more volleys of arrows, before setting the princess down. "Let's run for it."
The two dashed through the path Eri cleared for them. Yona's mind screamed as they made their way. Arrows are coming from everywhere...even Hak and Eri can't handle all of this!
Not looking ahead, she tripped over a crack in the cliff. She heard a faint shout, and there was the sound of an arrow whistling through the air. Eri screamed. "Hak, STOP!!"
Before Yona knew it, Hak had shoved her down, covering her as the arrow plunged into his shoulder. "Nngh...!"
"Hak!" Yona kneeled in front of him, worry etched across her features. "Are you okay!?"
The Thunder Beast yanked the arrow out, panting. "Don't fuss over me, it's creepy."
His arm went around her waist, and he pushed them into the air, above the soldiers. He hit the ground running, and the soldiers gawked.
"Incredible..."
"Don't stare, after him!"
The two ducked into the bushes, and as Hak set Yona down, she looked down at her hand. "You're bleeding!"
He ignored her, turning to go. "Eri's still back there, I need to go help her. Stay here-"
"Hak! You're bleeding!"
