"Boys, get down here! Dinner is ready!" my mom yelled from the bottom steps of the staircase.
"Coming mom! Let's go Leo, we don't want her sending dad after us," I said as I turned off the TV. We both stood up from where we were sitting and went into the kitchen where food was being prepared.
"Ellie, sit down, now," our little sister was jumping up and down towards her seat at the table.
"Dad isn't home yet?" Leo asked as him and I sat down.
"No, he said he was running late today," mom answered, that was the first sign of change.
"But he's always home by now, it's sunday," I said.
"Yes, I know, Leo. One time of him being late will be okay, it's not the end of the world." I could tell she was getting angry.
"Mom, I'm Asher. Not Leo," I stated.
"Yeah, Mom you're our mother, you should know," Leo has never liked when people messed us up.
"Yes, I'm aware! I'm sorry that you two just look so similar that I can't tell you apart! It isn't my fault, and you two are almost never apart, which makes it even harder to tell the difference!" she was mad now, and so was he.
"Yeah, I get it, it's a bit difficult, but you mess up almost every time. Whatever, it's fine, no one ever gets it right," after that Leo didn't say anything else.
The only two people that said anything else, was Ellie, even though she didn't say much. After dinner Leo and I went back to playing our game. Mom put Ellie to bed, then soon after dad came home. I heard him shower and wash his clothes, before he came into our room and said his good nights.
I'm not sure why I didn't ask if something was going on with him. He was never home late and he never went to bed this early. That day was the start of what changed Leo, my mom, my dad, me and even Ellie. That was the start of what changed our life. I'll never know why it was such a drastic change and I don't know why I remember the day so well, but I do know that none of us will ever get over that start.
