_____________

4th August, 2020.

Today was Nicole's first day in Intelligence. She was finally running with the big kids, after her old boss, Olivia Benson had pulled some strings. She'd been all over NYC, seen every case in the books, and returned to tell the tale. Now it was time to conquer Chicago, and make a new life solving crime.

She grabbed her coat and her bag. The sargent had already informed her that her gun was waiting for her at station. She grabbed her coffee off the kitchen counter, said goodbye both of her cats, and went downstairs to the garage. After panicking due to the time, she finally managed to find her keys and unlocked her car. She was still struggling with reversing out of her slanted driveway and swore she park the right way around next time.

Nicole sighed as she stood on the steps of the district. She already knew Trudy, she was a family friend. They went back as far as she remembered.

"I'm the new member of Intelligence, Detective Gouveia" Nicole stated to the woman at the front desk, who was busy pondering a crossword from the new copy of the Chicago Times magazine.

"Oh, Nicole! Welcome, let me buzz you up" Trudy jumped as she led Nicole up the stairs. Just before Nicole walked in, Trudy asked her something she wasn't expecting to hear today. She stopped.

"How's your sister?"

Grace.

Grace and Nicole were so close growing up. But when they became teenagers, they spilt apart. She still wasn't really sure why. It felt like just yesterday they were arguing over clothes and the next they were barely speaking at all. It all changed.

Nicole was only just reconnecting with Grace, and they were trying to reconstruct their relationship.

Grace had really turned her life around and got her stuff together. She'd done well for herself.

"She's doing great actually, she's in her second year of Med School, studying to become a brain surgeon." Nicole replied, smiling.

"I'm happy for you two, your mother would so proud." Trudy said, her eyes welled up with pride.

Trudy led her up the stairs. As they reached the top, all eyes were on her. That was expected.

"Hank, this is Detective Nicole Gouveia"

"I've heard a lot about you from Olivia." Voight grunted, he stopped leaning against his office door and came out of the room, shutting it with a thud.

"Yeah, and she's an amazing cop. You treat her right guys, or you'll just have to remember that I have multiple places in this city to hide a body" And with that, Platt stormed out, but not before giving Nicole a reassuring look. She was going to be fine.

"Hello everyone, I'm Nicole, I'm from New York, and I look forward to working with you all."

She was hit with a chorus of welcoming greetings and handshakes, even some hugs.

She headed over to Hank and shook his hand.

"Thank you for this opportunity Sergeant, it really means the world to me" She smiled.

"No problem, when Olivia and Trudy both recommend someone, their usually a good choice. You'll be working with Halstead."

Nicole tried so hard not to blush and smile weirdly as the insanely hot dude walked over to her and shook her hand. He had vibrant blue eyes and was wearing that was a bit too tight for all the muscle he had.

"Jay Halstead, pleasure to meet you."

She shook it back.

"Nicole Gouveia, same here."

She felt embarrassed knowing she was probably blushing and making her feelings obvious. Her number one goal was to come here and focus on her career. Not a relationship.

Little did she know Jay felt the same way.

They had only known each other for as few hours, but it wasn't hard to see:

She was falling for her partner.
