"Dad! Stop! you're not going to embarrass me! Not today" Paisley exclaimed as she quickly ran to her mother's vehicle giggling as she got in and realized her dad and younger brother were running out the door right behind her waving excitedly. It was Paisley's first day of high school. She was officially a freshman or Freshie as she liked to refer herself as. Paisley loved school. Well, not the learning part, but the socialization part, all the cute boys and the tea. She lived for juicy tea, like any other teenage girl, as long as she wasn't the topic of conversation. She couldn't wait to see what the year had in store for her and all of the cute upper classmen she was going to meet. Paisley spent the better half of last week attempting to find her first day of school outfit. She wanted something that said "she's cute! without trying to hard cute" even though she spent most of her time in a pair of 3 inch volleyball shorts, and whatever t-shirt she could find. But today she went with a cropped shirt, a pair of ripped jeans and flip flops. The butterflies kicked in as her mom rounded the corner and drew closer to the school. The butterflies soon went away when she saw her best friend Evelyn exiting the car right in front of her. "Bye Mom! love you. See you after practice" Paisley stated as quickly gathered her things and ran for Evelyn. "Ev! wait up!" Paisley shouted. Evelyn was Paisley's best friend, they had known each other for what seemed to be forever, even though this was the first year they would finally be in school together. Evelyn was a tall skinny red head, who lit up any room that she walked in to. She had more confidence in her baby toe than most grown men had. See Evelyn lived with her great aunt and uncle after being bounce around a lot as a small child and army brat. Evelyn's mom was a drug addict in and out of rehab, and Evelyn's father her hero was a solider who passed away when she was small. Evelyn learned to adapt to change quickly and realized that the sooner she made a friend the easier it would be, so she befriended everyone, and would literally to talk to the wall if it would talk back to her. She had dreams of being on Broadway one day as a dancer of course and changing her life and her aunts and uncles forever. However, for now she'll just conquer being a Freshie. "Are you ready to rock this?" Paisley asked Ev as she squeezed her hand and they walked into the school.
The halls rang with the buzz of excitement, friends hugging and talking and sounds of laughter filled the busy hallways. Paisley headed towards her locker, and the butterflies kicked in again as she was hoping to snag a gimps of her summer crush. They talked all summer, even though her mom told her she's too young for a boyfriend. she didn't care, she hoped for the day he'd ask her out, and have a date for homecoming. There he was standing at his locker, which happened to be 3 down from Paisley. His back was turned but she knew it was him, he turn just in time for Paisley to stop at her locker. "Hey Paisley!" Elijah stated and he went in for a hug. Elijah wasn't the typical guy Paisley was attracted to. Paisley kept telling herself that it was okay, he was such a nice guy. Which was a HUGE change from the other boys in her life, that she didn't care that he was different. Elijah was the awkward nerdy kid who was member of the tennis team, and loved playing the piano. He was barley taller than her, however he always made her laugh, and was nice to everyone he talked to. She liked that, she didn't have to worry about him getting into fights or being jealous, considering most of Paisley's friends were boys. After exchanging what seemed to be an enteral hug, the first bell rang. Paisley started in a light jog to get to her first class at the other end of the school.
Paisley was a super social girl, she seemed to know everyone, or at least everyone seemed to know her, which was always surprising to her, because she totally thought she was easily forgotten. Paisley always felt as though there was a dark cloud looming not far behind that it was a feeling that she seemed to never to able to shake. She most definitely did not see the best in every situation. She was the type of girl who waited for the other shoe to fall, silently. She was a blender, never wanting to stand out in the crowd, just wanted to stand in, and stand in she did. She was athletic playing volleyball and softball year round. She was pretty in the girl next door way. Medium height shoulder length dirty blonde hair with pink tips. She always wished she was taller , and of course skinnier, however there wasn't an ounce of fat on her body.
Tick tock. The clock seemed to be moving slower as it inched closer to lunch, or what Paisley had renamed "social hour" she couldn't wait to meet back up with Ev and talk about their first couple of hours and of course the boys. Oh the boys. Paisley hadn't realized that there were going to be so many upper classmen in her classes, she thought she'd be seeing the same kids as she has been for the last 3 years of middle school. The bell rang and Paisley quickly picked up her bag and walked out to meet up with Ev, who was surrounded by guys already. Hey Paisley! Ev giggled as Paisley caught up with her. " I was just talking with Josh about the football game this Friday, and how we should all go it could be fun" "Sure" Paisley replied. " I can come straight from volleyball practice." Josh was a senior and the starting quarterback for the team. He also happened to be Ev's latest crush, and it seemed he was crushing on her too, and they only met 2 hours ago. Paisley rolled her eyes and walked away as Ev was completely caught in whatever Josh was saying and caught back up with Elijah who happened to have lunch with her as well. "Hey Paisley" Elijah stated as he started to take out a hoodie from his backpack. Paisley found this odd as it was 85 degrees outside. he hands her the hoodie and says " So, If you're my girlfriend you'll wear this right?" "I'm your girlfriend?!?!" Paisley questions surprisingly. "I mean yea if you want to be." "Well of course" Paisley replied. Paisley took the hoodie, and hugged Elijah. She had been awaiting for him to ask her out all summer, and oddly shocked when it happened so quickly on the first day of school as they had discussed waiting a few weeks to make sure the feelings were still there after being able to see each other in person every day at school. Ring, the lunch bell rang. Lunch was over.
