Death was never someone Geno really wanted to know.
Geno was the type of person who was ok with what he has, he never strives for more like his brother did. he was ok with the same food everyday, with the same routine,
Geno only ever really wanted to know the people he already knew
unfortunate events happen
over and over again.
and the universe tends to pick and chose who it's screws over, and it happened to be Geno.
It had been months since Geno found himself trapped in the anti-void.
He watched as his friends visited and left. The company was enough to keep him content with staying alive for a while, but after a while the feelings faded, and people got bored.
Well, most people did, Death didn't.
Death found himself visiting Geno frequently. Checking in day after day. He was the only one to probably realize Geno's lack of lust for life.
and it became a sad habit for him to stop asking questions, trying to get the pale skeleton to open up about things. the last time he did it went something like
"i can tell you how i feel, but it won't fix anything"
and this stuck with him, like a horrible vinegar in his mouth. Death knew he shouldn't have, but his worlds hung over his head, constantly. and he finally accepted the bitter defeat, all he could do know was... what, keep trying? not give up...
Death found himself upon Geno lying on the ground today.
He looked dead enough already, but his body as limp as it was, was enough to worry Death.
what was more troublesome was Geno's distant stare, his stare into... well literally nothing.
Death nudged Geno with his foot. He hated to admit it, but he loved every time he got to touch Geno, even if it were just a poke, or a small brush of their shoulders. Death always found himself wanting more physical contact with Geno, but never wanted to scare him, or make him think he was using him, even if it were for hugs.
Death never really solved the question if he wanted to touch Geno because of the feelings he had for him, or if it was just because Geno was the only person he COULD touch.
"It's funny" Geno said in a horse voice, breaking Death from his trail of though
"that death not of follows me metaphorically but LITerally"
Death sat down beside the helpless looking skeleton "what can i say, your just Sooooooo followable!~"
Geno let out a forced snort before going quiet again
Death felt a certain pain from this, it hurt.
Geno then weakly sat up
"Hey Death..."
"yeah?"
"....."
"....."
"what do you think the best place in the universe... esss... is?"
"well.."
He paused and thought about it
"there is this garden, it belongs to tori"
Geno internalized a sigh of disappointment, he had always envied toriel from death's au. they were so... perfect.. meant to be... the opposite of... whatever Geno was looking for
"and i'm never allowed in there, because, well i kill all the flowers" Death chuckled a little
Geno smiled weakly
"but i think it's, beautiful in there, the whole place is so... colorful. or it could just be, i can't be in there, so i want to" death shrugged
"i know the feeling" Geno nodded
Death peeked over at him
"why..."
"....."
Geno stood up
"take me"
Death felt a rush of fear
"Geno- Geno no you'll"
"I KNOW what will happen, you don't think i want it"
Death froze "you..."
"..."
"please..." Death for the first time in his life let himself cry, in front of someone at least.
at this moment all the facades, all the flirts and puns, it was all gone
"i... i don't want you to" death frowned, a painful frown that you could feel, one that pulled on your cheeks and made your lips quiver.
Geno looked down, avoiding seeing this face
"i'm just.. i'm in so mu-much pa-pain HeRe" as Geno spike his voice began to glitch
"AnD i-im" he heald up his glitching hand to reveal the discoloration on his bones.
he left out a sigh of utter despair "If i'm stuck here any longer... i won't BE Geno anymore... i don't think"
Geno was cut off by the embrace of Death
he wrapped his arms around Geno, he couldn't hear it, but he could feel his body shiver from the sobbing he was obviously hiding.
Geno hugged back, allowing tears to fall as he began to glitch more and more
after a couple minutes Geno patted Death's back, signaling him he was ready
"i don't want to let go of you" death whispered.
This was probably the most genuine sentence you could ever get out of this skeleton who drowned out all of his problems with stupid sex jokes and childish banter
Geno rested his face in Deaths neck for a couple seconds
"please" Geno said helplessly
Death forced soft laughter "begging for me huh?"
Geno smiled and laughed a little, deciding this time he wouldn't hit the bonehead with his slipper or yell at him for making such a horrid joke and the worst time
Death let go of Geno, holding his hand.
he look one long look at him before opening a portal to the garden
Geno stares at it for a while and smiles
"it's IS really pretty"
Death nods, forcing a smile. he steps though, his hand being the only thing on the other sid rod the portal
Geno then takes a deep breath, he stares at death and smiles. he then steps though the portal.
not even a second of being through his body begins to turn to dust, Geno squeezes Deaths hand. the last bit of him being his face, covered with a genuine smile, something that death never really saw from him....
death helplessly fell down next to the pile of dust. grabbing Geno's scarf and bringing it to his face.
upon doing this he felt something... paper?
Death quickly fumbled to pick it out, finding a pale envelope titled 'Death'
Death wiped his face. His fingers fumbled to open it.
"Dear Death,
No not actual death, the stupid skeleton who annoys me everyday. Thank you, for staying, and putting your energy into someone as hopeless as me. I want you to know, your time wasn't wasted, and you were the hardest part of making this decision. With every joke you made and attempt to make me feel a bit more better, i felt more happy, i found myself living everyday waiting to see you come into my world. But death (no not you) felt like fate. Death feels like something that was just, dumped on me by the universe, you can take that either way you want, and ironic as it is, you were what DID keep me alive. so thanks, you sadistic asshole.
and don't worry about me being lonely, i'm sure paps says hi
With Unfortunate Love,
Geno"
Death smiled
