“We’ll be in so much trouble if we are late again” Vanessa groaned. She threw around her clothes some more until she found the shirt she was looking for. “I know right! We were late last year and we had to do detention. That’s bad on my record” sighed Kiley. “Well i only have a few more things to pack then we can ask Auntie Suzie for a ride” Vanessa continued to throw clothes around. “Well i’m finished. I’ll be downstairs if you need anything” Kiley grabbed her suitcase and headed out the door.
Vanessa threw some more clothes into her suitcase, she pushed the clothes down so they would fit. She zipped up the suitcase. Vanessa felt exhausted, she collapsed onto her bed. I might have a few minutes to just rest Vanessa thought to herself. Vanessa stared up at the ceiling and wondered how the new school year was going to go. Her and Kiley would be starting sixth grade at Boston boarding school. Vanessa flicked her eyes over to her mirror and stared at herself. Her thoughts escalated to a much darker imagination. She knew there would be kids just waiting to bully her. She’s not normal. Vanessa kept staring at herself in the mirror. She stared at her two fox ears on the top of her head, she also stared at her fox tail. She tried to fight those “”thought to get out of her head, but yet, they never leave her side as much as she wants them too. Vanessa felt tears building up in her eyes, she started to fight back the tears. She didn’t want herself to cry over something she thought was so childish.
Just then the flung open, Vanessa jerked her head up. Kiley stood in the doorway, “Vanessa what are you doing sitting around? We should’ve left by now, stop messing around and lets get going” Kiley tapped her foot impatiently. Vanessa jumped off her bed, the thoughts left her head. Vanessa grabbed her suitcase and followed Kiley downstairs. Auntie Suzie waited for them in the family room, “All packed and ready to go?” she asked them. Vanessa and Kiley nodded as Auntie Suzie got up to unlock the door. Kiley and Vanessa loaded their luggage into the back of the car. They plopped into the backseat. “Do you guys have everything you need before we start going?” Auntie Suzie asked while starting the engine. “I have everything” Kiley beamed. “So do i” mumbled Vanessa.
Twenty minutes later, their car pulled into the parking lot. Auntie Suzie helped the two girls get their belongings out of the car. Kiley set her bags down, she wrapped her arms around Auntie Suzie’s waist. “See you on Thanksgiving, i love you” Kiley said. Auntie Suzie smiled and returned the hug. “I’m going to miss you too” Vanessa joined in on the hug. After a couple of minutes, Auntie Suzie let go. “Take care girls”.
Vanessa and Kiley watched as Auntie Suzie drove off. They turned their bodies forward and faced the school. “Ready for another year?” asked Kiley now looking at Vanessa. “Yeah i guess i am” Vanessa mumbled. Kiley put her hand on Vanessa’s shoulder. Vanessa looked at her and saw Kiley smiling “It’s ok Nessa, i’ll be here to stand up and protect you. ‘Cause that’s what bestfriends are for, right?” Vanessa returned the smile “That’s right” she said happily. They grabbed their luggage and walked into the school.
“Ok the paper says our dorm room number is 32” Kiley said staring at the paper while walking. Vanessa stared at the walls, she noticed that the school had hung up some new posters over the summer. “Hmmm our dorm should be down this hall” Kiley pointed the the hall on the left of them. “I noticed that they haven’t really changed they school at all since we started. The only changes are that they hang up new posters” Vanessa said while still looking around. Kiley laughed as she examined the numbers on the dorms. “28...29...30...31...Ah ha here it is, dorm number 32” Kiley pointed proudly to the dorm. Kiley pulled her student ID card from her pocket. She swiped it into the machine above the doorknob, “That should unlock it” Kiley twisted the doorknob.
The door swung open, the smell of the dorm room made Vanessa’s nostrils flare up. “It smells even worse than last year” Kiley said covering her nose. Vanessa sighed as she realized the dorms were the same like they are every year. The dorm had two beds and a bathroom. There was enough space to put a bookshelf in there, which there already was one. Kiley put her suitcase on her bed, she unzipped it and started to take out stuff. “We better hurry and get our dorm set up today because when classes start tomorrow we won’t have a lot of time to do it” Kiley said while pulling out books from her other suitcase. Vanessa nodded as she started to unzip her suitcase.
