Mom and I sit in the kitchen as Jonathan makes breakfast. I look over the missing person poster to check for any mistakes.

I hardly got any sleep last night so I stayed up, distracting myself with writing my new book that I've been working on.

"Alright. Breakfast is ready." Jonathan says as he pours the eggs onto three plates.

It hurts knowing one of those plates isn't for Will, but for my Mom who looks like she hasn't gotten any sleep in weeks.

Jonathan turns around with two plates in his hands. He puts one down in front of Mom and almost puts mine on the poster I was revising.

"Careful of the poster." I say as I remove it from the table.

"Okay, sorry." Jonathan puts the plate down and turns to get his.

"It's okay. Thanks." I thank him for the breakfast like I do every morning. He nods his head like usual and sits down with his plate.

Mom looks at her plate. "I can't eat." She shakes her head.

"You have to." Jonathan tells her.

"Listen. Listen, the Xerox place opens in, like, 30 minutes." Mom tells Jonathan and he nods. "And I don't want you to go alone."

"I'll go with him, Mom. It's okay. It's gonna be fine." I tell her.

"Okay. I want Karen to take you guys, 'cause I should be here." Mom says and we nod. "We need to make, what, 200, 300 copies? How much is a copy? Ten cents? If we... Ten cents-"

"Mom. Mom!" We finally get her attention.

"You can't get like this, okay?" Jonathan tells her as she tries to hold back her tears.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Mom whispers.

"No, it's okay. Don't be sorry. It's not your fault. We understand." I tell her.

She puts her cigarette on her mouth and suddenly there's a knock on the door. She takes one last pull before putting it out and quickly heading to the door. We follow her, but stay behind a little bit. Mom opens the door to reveal Hopper.

She sighs as Hopper steps into the house. "We've been waiting six hours."

"I know. I came as soon as I could." Hopper says as he closes the door behind him.

"Six hours." Mom repeats irritably.

"Little bit of trust here, alright?" Hopper says. "We've been searching all night. Went all the way to Cartersville."

"And?" Mom asks, hope in her voice.

"Nothing." Hopper says as he looks down.

"God." Mom puts her hand to her mouth, trying not to cry, and looks back at us as I drop my head.

"Flo says you got a phone call?" Hopper asks after a moment.

Mom gasps in realization."Oh, yeah." She walks to the phone with Hopper following behind.

Hopper inspects the damage of the slightly charred phone. "Storm barbecued this pretty good."

"The storm?" Mom asks doubtfully.

"What else?" Hopper asks as he looks at her with confusion in his eyes.

"You're saying that that's not weird?" Mom asks, gesturing insistently to the fried phone.

"No, it's weird." Hopper says as he puts the phone back on the wall.

"Can we, like, trace who made the call?" Jonathan quietly asks from beside me.
