MELISSA
"..mum.." A muffled voice calls. "..MUM.." The voice repeats, this time clearer and more aggressive. "MUM!" Melissa wakes up to see her daughter shaking her mother by her shoulders and screaming into her ears while the alarm is going off in the background.
"MUM!" Her daughter exclaims in a frustrated manner. "Yes, sweetie?" Melissa answer's in a half asleep and slightly irritated tone. "IT'S MY TRACK COMPETITION!!" Melissa's eyes fill with realisation and worry. Her eyes finally adjusting to her surroundings and she sees Jean, her daughter, fully dressed and carrying her bag with one hand on her back. Melissa quickly looks behind her to see her alarm clock, jumping around and still making a lot of noise. "IT'S 7:30??" Melissa, with a face of utter horror asked rhetorically. Stumbling to her closet at top speed, Melissa swung open the old, wooden doors and quickly scanned through her clothing. She snatched a few material items holding them at eye hight to determine what she should wear as she calmly asks her daughter various questions:
"Have you eaten breakfast?"
"Yes."
"Did you brush your teeth?"
"Yes."
"Do you have your jacket, bottled water and lunch in your bag?"
"Yes."
"Did you take a shower and freshen up?"
"Yes."
"Do you have your phone?"
"Yes, Mum! I have everything! Hurry up!"
The two rushed out the door and hoped onto Melissa's two-seater bike and rode as fast as they could to the track.
When the two reach their destination Jean quickly jumps off and runs towards the track throwing her luggage to the seats. "You're late, Violet. Quickly, get ready." Barks Jean's coach.

EBONY
Standing still, hands glued to her side as she wears a sickening frightened expression on her face. Looking as if she had committed an extremely disturbing crime, one that included murder. "Hey, chill out. It's okay! You got this!" A calming voice whispered in her ear. "You run like we all know you can. Show your audience a performance they long for. Imagine it's only you. Running, faster and faster." Ebony looks behind herself to see her coach. Ebony looks back to the track and braces her feet.
"Ready ... Set ... GO!" The commentator yells through the microphone as a checkered flag is forcefully lowered. Suddenly, Ebony's surroundings became nothing but white. Ebony ran as fast as she could, as if nothing mattered anymore. Everyone in the stands, the people she seemed to be once versing had all vanished. She felt free. Like someone had taken a weight off her chest. Ebony had forgotten what this feeling felt like. The few competitors that were originally behind the starting line had now thrusted themselves through the harsh wind and were now at different stages of the track, Ebony in the lead. When she opened her eyes, she was taken aback to see that no one was either side of her or even in front of her, something that had never happened before. Looking back to see how far in front she was she subconsciously slowed down. This being a mistake as another girl with light brown skin and dark hair with piercing eyes zoomed past her. Ebony left in complete shock she quickly caught up with the girl, not being able to over take her. The expression's on their faces soon changed from neutral and tired to determined and frankly, quite angry. Out of nowhere, a rock the size of a child's palm tripped Ebony causing her to loose balance and fall face flat. Ebony looked up as she witnessed the girl cross the line as tears filled her eyes. Suddenly, she felt an intense amount of pain on her lower back. It was so unbearable and painful that she let out a disturbing and highly concerning scream. It felt as if her back was being burned alive. As the other competitors caught up to Ebony they stopped to see what was wrong while wearing a horrified look on their faces. Ebony sounded as if she being stabbed repeatedly, not being able to move. Soon various people came to witness the sight. Some even pulling out cameras.

Then, the crowd heard another 5 scarring screams as 5 others dropped to the ground in immense pain. Jean noticed one of the women screaming. "MUM!" Jean cried out darting over to her mother. "NO! MUM!" Jean now being at her side. "I- .. love you, .. Jean." Her Mother whimpered with a loving yet frightened voice before collapsing.
