MILESTONE

PROLOGUE

I know that I am hopelessly broke, but I couldn’t help hoping that one day my prince charming will come and sweep me off my feet by paying all the debts in my name. I was never born broke and I never knew I was broke till about a week ago. I lost everything aside from the mansion I was born in and my car.

How did I reach rock bottom? My dad. The thing is he was born into a noble family where they had to work to eat. Not because they were very poor, but because my grandparents wanted them to learn how to fend for themselves.

My dad was always a lazy lad and he sought the easiest way out of things back then. He was always getting into trouble and paying his way out or having my grandparents do that for him. He was the black sheep in his family.

But the one good thing he had was his brain and his looks. He was book smart but not street smart. With his rare qualities he caught the eye of my mother. The heiress, the only child of her parents. She fell madly in love with him. But my father was all for the money although he was smart about not showing it.

He played her, but all his game plans came crashing down when my mum told him she was pregnant with me. To save their face and title, my grandfather got my dad married to his ‘little apple’. He never liked my dad but put up with him and now, years after my grandfather’s death, my father proves how right my grandfather was about him.

His book smart was supposed to help my grandparents company, but he decided to involve his street smart which is next to nothing and now the company is in great debt because of his shady dealings.

Hearing what he did sent my sweet mum to the hospital. The doctors don’t know when she’ll wake up and my dad is in jail awaiting his trial. I hope he rots there because he has left me in the middle of the ocean with no way out but to drown and sink.

Funny enough, I’m left with one of two options. Either I merge with a rival company or I move all the sweat of my ancestors off the surface of the earth.
