Confusion
The first thing that I realised was that it was impossible for my body to move. My limbs were heavy and felt like they were bound with wire so that I couldn’t move. I had half-expected darkness to appear when I opened my eyes, expecting myself to be in an alleyway with my clothes ripped, my head beaten in with no recollection of where I was or who I had met. However I was met with light. It wasn’t sunlight but rather sterile light, like the ones in the hospital. It burnt into my face as I scrunched my eyes up to avoid most of the light. Turning my head to the side to get out of the vision of light I felt every bone in my body give a heaving creak of protest. I let out a groan of pain.
That’s when I heard a beep of a monitor, the shuffling of feet and unfamiliar voices. Oh god was I actually in a hospital? What happened? I don’t even remember. Was I in a government facility where they experimented on mutants? I drew in a deep breath, trying to muster up any clue as to where I was. I smelt…perfume, cologne, blood, metal, worry, relief and confusion although I think that was my emotion right now. There was the sound of a sliding door and I heard someone approaching. Instantly my instincts kicked in and I fought against the heavy feeling my body possessed. I began to wriggle on the bed that I was strapped too, trying to fight the binds.
“Nora?” now that voice was familiar, “Nora, you’re safe now”
Finally blinking my eyes open I turned to my left to see the red haired woman from before. That’s when everything came flooding back to my mind.
“W-what happened?” I muttered looking around. I wasn’t in a hospital but rather a small operating room. A metal table full of bloody clothes and instruments, a kidney dish that had a bloody bullet in it, I saw a bunch of people on the other side of the glass doors about to come in. I looked over at the woman pleading with my eyes to not let them in. I didn’t know who they were.
“It’s okay” she said as she put her hand on my shoulder. They were strong hands, built for fighting and handling weapons. That’s when her face finally became familiar to me. Now that I saw her in the light and no when I was fighting for breath and she was cloaked in shadows. My brow furrowed as I studied her closer, the glass door slid open.
“Romanoff” I said to her, “you’re Natasha Romanoff, The Black Widow” Natasha’s mouth pursed like she didn’t want me to know that information.
“Well finally she knows someone around here” a man spoke up as he stood in the door way flanked by a younger girl who resembled him a lot, a guy with a grim expression on his face a bow strapped across his back and a rather shy, nerdy guy with glasses. I looked down at myself and saw that I was wearing one of those paper thin hospital gowns, also my tiger tail was in plain sight. I looked at everyone more closely. Tony Stark, he was the guy that had spoken.
“You expect an unconscious to speak Stark” I snapped at him, not liking how I was in god knows where with the members of the Avengers holding me like a hostage.
The monitor by my bedside beeped harder, showing my increasing heart rate. The nerdy guy walked forward taking his glass off and bringing up a screen with heaps of blue hologram things on it.
“You’ve lost a lot of blood, it’s going to take time for you to heal” he said, as he glanced at me through the screen. He had deep eyes, he almost seemed scared all the time, he was dressed formally his dark hair wavy on his forehead.
“I feel fine” I said stubbornly and strained against the binds, making my left hip pulse with pain. I winced as my fangs flicked out and bit my bottom lip, drawing blood.
“Honey the last time I checked shot and passed out did not define ‘fine’” Mr Stark pointed out as he approached the nerdy guy glancing at the holograms too.
“Naveen would you please attend to the patient” Mr Stark said flippantly at the younger girl. Natasha moved away from me as the other girl walked up to me. She had long dark brown hair with matching eyes. She looked familiar too. Why did everyone look familiar but didn’t sound familiar? Oh right, because they don’t care about your wellbeing Nora just to experiment on you.
