"This crush has been going on long enough! It's time you told her." Charlie Sloan said. "You've been in love with her since grade 8, it's been 2 years." Gilbert sighed.
"So you're finally going to ask Diana out?" Gilbert asked. "You've been hyping yourself up for 3 hours. Just do it."
Gilbert was lying on his bed playing with his hoodie strings. He has been hearing Charlie talking to himself for a while, but he knows Charlie won't do it. Charlie has been pacing Gilbert's room thinking of ways to ask out Diana. None of them were good enough for her, according to him.
"Do you know where Diana is? I'm going to do it. I'm going to ask her out." Charlie said grabbing his car keys. "Also, you're coming with. I need you to distract Anne because we know damn well their together."
Gilbert groaned. He liked Anne but their rivalry had gotten out of hand and they were currently in an argument.
"I don't think that's necessary, just tell Anne you want space." Gilbert stated even though he knew she wouldn't leave if Diana said she could stay.
"Gilbert, come on. Their kindred or whatever bullshit they say. She's not going to listen to me." Gilbert knew he was right and got a book for the drive.

Anne and Diana were sitting in the Cuthbert's living room watching Stranger things. They were scared shitless of the monster and they were also home alone so that didn't help. Suddenly someone knocked at the door and they both screamed. Anne had gotten up and grabbed a baguette.
"Really? That's what you chose to fight of monsters with? Pathetic." Diana whispered-screamed.
They knew it wasent real but Anne had helped Diana gain her imagination back, so this seemed pretty real to them. Anne opened the door really slowly and saw two figures. She quickly hit them in the head with the baguette and screamed.
"Ow!"
"Dude! What the hell?"
Diana came from behind the hallway wall. She recognized their voices. She walked to the door surprised.
"Charlie? Gilbert? What are you doing here?" Diana quickly looked at what she was wearing and grabbed Matthews big jacket to cover herself. She and Anne were both wearing XXXL men's T-shirts' with no bra and really short shorts. Diana crossed her arms over her chest, feeling embarrassed. Anne on the other hand, could not care any less.
"What the hell? Why are you here?" Anne asked with a moody tone. She was having a sleep over and she definitely did not invite them.
"I- uhm. I came to talk to Diana." Charlie said, playing with his hands. Anne took notice of the situation and smirked at Diana. Diana rolled her eyes and said he could speak. "Actually, could we speak alone?"
Anne was smiling really big and took Gilbert's arm and pulled him upstairs. She haven't forgotten their fight but Diana has been pining over Charlie for years now, and if Charlie was about to ask Diana what Ane thought he was. Diana would have a boyfriend and she would leave Anne. Anne led Gilbert to her room but he stopped in the door way.
"I know we're fighting right now but come in. I won't bite your head off. I still need competition at school." Anne said, showing a chair for him. He sat down silently and got out his phone. He had never been over the Anne's house so he gave her his phone. Anne took it confused.
"Why did you give me this?"
"Ca- I... uhm wifi?"
"Oh, right." Anne chuckled lightly and typed it in and gave back his phone. "I wonder what's happening. Do you know why Charlie asked to speak to Diana alone?"
"Yea, I do." Gilbert said coldly.
"Gilbert!!" Anne said, wanted to know. "Can you please tell me?"
"Will you leave me alone if I do?"
"Maybe. 50/50 chance." Anne said smiling.
"Charlie is going to ask Diana out."
Anne dramatically dropped on the floor.
"Are you serious? Oh! I cannot tell you how long Diana has been waiting. I told her to ask him out herself but she argued that 'the boy is always supposed to ask the girl out'. It's so annoying. Why do the girls have to wait for the boy? You know what I would do?"
"I think you'll tell me soon enough."
"If I really liked the guy, I would ask him out. It can't be hard. Boys do it all the time. Also, why does the girl have to wait for the boy to kiss her? If I wanted to kiss a boy, I would just kiss him. I don't understand the big deal." Anne took a deep breathe and opened her window. She began to climb out and onto her cherry tree outside.
"Anne, what are you doing? Please get back into your room." Gilbert said, with worry in his voice.
"Don't be such a baby, I do this all the time." Anne stated. "I've never fallen. Only once."
Gilbert began to climb out and was now sitting next to Anne.
"How did you fall?"
"Well, I was trying to get that blossom over there. You see it?" Anne said pointing to it. "But I slipped and fell into a stack of hay. So it was funny." Anne laughed at the thought of it.
Gilbert stood up and grabbed the flower for Anne. He was taller so he didn't lose balance on his tippy toes. In fact, he didn't even get up entirely. He put the flower behind Anne's ear and she looked away because her cheeks were blushing.
"There you go. And no one got hurt." Gilbert said smiling.
"I own you an apology."
"No, you don't."
"Yes I do."
"I should apologize to you."
"No you shouldn't."
"I was rude-"
"But it was my fault-"
"Can we please not argue for once?"
"Can you please stop contradicting me?" Anne said out of breath. They were now facing each other which happened during the conversation.
"Gilbert, I am very sorry about what happened. I never meant for it to get out of hand, I was just tired of everyone saying things like that. I don't even know why I said your name, but I did and I'm sorry. I never meant for people to think we were something other than friends, it was an accident and I'm sorry."
"It's water under the bridge."
"I promise I will never say something like that again."
"Well I hope not. I don't want to face another week of detention for yelling at you in the middle of class." Gilbert and Anne laughed.
"Friends?" Anne asked hopefully holding out her pinky.
"Definitely." Gilbert intertwined his pinky with hers.
