Dream on

Beep beep.

The sound of morning alarm woke me up. I glanced at it for a second then proceeded to bury my face in the pillow. Hoped that this alarm was just a dream.

Beep. Beep.

Click.

Without glancing at the clock, my hand slammed it gently. Finally, peace and quiet.

"Cathy! You need to wake up now!" Mom yelled from the kitchen. I admired her ability to scream, honestly, teach me please.

"Yes mom!" Grumbled, I shuffled my feet to the bathroom. Brushed my teeth as I stared idly at the mirror. Should I cut my hair short later? I think this hair is too long.

Hearing my mom faint scream my name again, I lazily held back a yawn with my left hand.

Eh? What's wrong with my hand? Why there's a strong smell of grass?

I stared at them with squinted eyes. Eventually I shrugged it off due to morning sickness.

Bath did not last long. I cleaned up places that should be cleaned. The rest? The rest is clean. I put my uniform on. It was consisted of brown skirt with checkered patterns, a white shirt, a chocolate long sleeve blazer, and a black necktie. Oh, I almost forgot my bag.

Feeling ready and confident, I walked down the stair to the kitchen. Yep, mom was still cooking. In between chopping the vegetables she asked me, "What took you so long?"

"How about good morning dear?"

Mom scoffed at my blatant disrespect then gently put a french toast on the table.

"Eat, you're going to be late"

This was the best greeting she could pulled off in this beautiful monday morning. I didn't complain even though I wanted to complain. Monday hits different for everyone. In example, mom would go on morning shift after 3 days of night shift at the hospital she works at. So her rough demeanor is to be expected. I still have a thing to complain though. This breakfast, I mean. Too greasy.

"Just leave the leftovers if you could not finish it, okay"

Reading my mind, she put my bread on a tissue to soak most of the oil before put it back again on my plate. She winked and I Nodded as a response. Mom suddenly looked at me and sniffed around, "You played with dogs outside again last night?"

"Why?"

"You smell like grass"

I shrugged my shoulders as a response. I didn't know what happened either. As I savor the taste of poached eggs, I looked up the wall to find the clock.

7.00 A.M

Welp, it's time to go.

"Mom, thank you for the food. Bye~"

School was not that far from home. I can always walk the distance without breaking a sweat. I know that because I usually jogs around the neighborhood when I have the time to do so. Girls should work out after all.

The walk is not that special. Nothing really happened except for sending smile to senior couple around. I wonder why the elderly is so active at morning, as opposed to teenagers who love to be active at night like owl?

Arriving at the school I found myself to contemplate about life more. Especially about assume. It's in the DNA, human have to assume to survive.

People always assume. It's just what they're best at. Not because they choose to, it is because of evolution. Assuming is a part of human's instinct to survive. Without assuming about things, human could not judge whether certain things are dangerous or not, thus their survival chance will be slim to none.
