I woke up and peered over at my clock. It was 9:00am. My eyes widened, and I sat up, as I gained my sense of reality. My best friend Olivia and I have had this dream ever since we were kids, that we would move to New York together, and today is the day our dream comes true. Our lives are about to change forever.
I leaped out of bed and sprinted to my closet. What am I gonna wear? I need to look professional, it's New York for God's sake. I thought to myself. I threw on a black mini skirt, along with a beige jacket and a simple necklace and earrings. I rushed to the bathroom and threw on some makeup. Gotta have a good impression. I brushed out my hair and put it into a high ponytail.
As I head downstairs, I see Olivia waiting for me, in the front entrance.
"What's taking you so long?" Olivia questioned. "The plane leaves in two hours!!"
"Oh please, it will only take us 45 minutes to drive there, and like half an hour for security," I reassured her. "Now, I'm going to have some cereal,"
Olivia walks over to the fridge and grabs some left over pizza.
"I don't understand how you're okay with this, Cece," Olivia explained. "I mean, you woke up so late, got ready so quickly, you barely look put together, and you're not even stressed about it."
"I don't know how you are stressed, Liv. It's not that big of a deal." I replied.
"It is a big deal. Our lives are about to change, and I don't know if i'm ready for it. I just feel like i'm leaving my friends and family behind, and for what, to live in New York?? I don't know if it's really worth it."
"Liv, what's making you feel this way?" I ask. "Nobody's holding you back. If you want to stay, then stay. But just think, we've been wanting to do this ever since we were twelve years old. do you really want to through that away??"
"I know, I just feel bad," Olivia said, as she sat down on the couch.
"You shouldn't feel bad, Liv. You're 21, you're allowed to move out. We can always visit our families, or they can come visit us, it'll be okay, trust me." I explained.
"Okay, I guess you're right," Olivia replied. "we better get going, we don't wanna miss the plane."
"But i'm not done my cereal!!" I mumbled, while stuffing cereal in my mouth.
"Don't talk with food in your mouth, Cecilia!!!" Olivia yelled back.
"Taxi!!!" I yelled, while gesturing for the taxi.
As the taxi pulled up, another man was waving his hand for it to come over.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know this was your taxi," he exclaimed.
"Oh no it's fine," I exclaimed. "we were just hailing it over."
"Yeah, we don't mind sharing," Olivia added.
"alright!!" The man exclaimed, while hopping into the taxi.
I slid into the backseat, followed by Olivia.
"Where are you all off to?" asked the taxi driver.
"The airport," Said both Olivia and the man.
"Oh, funny, we're going to the same place!!" I said, trying to lighten the mood.
The silent car ride consisted of foot tapping, whistling, and the sound of people clearing their throats every 45 or so seconds.
"Where are you girls off to?" asked the man, breaking the silence.
"Off to New York," I replied. "What about you?"
"Just picking up my sister," he replied.
A couple more minutes of silence went by. The only sound breaking the silence was the rain bouncing off the windows of the taxi at a high speed. The taxi driver decided to brighten the mood a bit, by turning on some music.
"What the hell is this crap, turn in off," the man yelled.
The song was Canyon Moon by Harry Styles. I personally see nothing wrong with the song, but we all have our opinions.
"I'm sorry sir, i'll turn it off," said the poor taxi driver. All this man was trying to do was to brighten the mood and make it less tense in the car.
"You can't even drive a taxi without doing your god damn job!" he yelled again, this time punching the side of the door.
"Sir, if you're going to get aggressive, please leave the car," The taxi driver explained. I think Olivia and I had the same idea in mind to just stay quiet, to avoid any un needed conflict.
"Alright, we've arrived!!" explained the taxi driver.
"ugh, finally," exclaimed the man, annoyed. "im rating this taxi one star. absolute bull crap."
Olivia and I hopped out of the taxi, thanking the taxi driver. The poor man did the best he could.
"This is where our lives change forever, Cece," Olivia exclaims.
"Yep, say goodbye to Toronto, Liv."
