"Wake up girl."

Someone grabs and shakes my shoulders, though, I can't open my eyes no matter how hard I try. The light hurts, shining through my eyelids and I don't want to move.

I reluctantly roll onto my side and squeeze my eyes shut harder.

Through the bright white in my vision, I faintly see the face of the last thing I saw. The wolf which lay down at my feet and made me black out. It pads up in front of me before swishing its huge tail and standing tall, regal looking. Like a statue. Its bright blue eyes stare into me as I see it just standing there, a little far away. A small girl, with long brown hair which falls down to her hips and piercing green orbs wandered up to it and reached her hand up to pet its shoulders. The wolf nuzzled her neck and stood still staring at me. As I watched, the girl started walking towards me. I focused on her and watched as a beautiful, sleek tail swished from her back and wrapped around her front. Fluffy ears picked up on top of her head. Her hips swayed and waved her tail gracefully behind her.

As she got closer and before I could make out her features, she faded into the white and the wolf was gone.

I opened my eyes to see the darkness of a covered cage. My stomach turns as I bump around, presumably on the back of a cart. Scared, I timidly lift up a corner of the fabric and hug my knees to me as I peer at the outer surroundings. I catch my breath when I see I don't know where I am. There are trees passing over head and I'm at the back of the cart. I reach my hands through the wide bars and slowly start dragging myself and my cage along to the open back. I can't move my legs as I've been neatly folded up to fit in here so my arms quickly tire, trying to pull myself along. I'm just about to fall off so I lift the back of the cover quietly and look over my shoulder to see an arrow meet the Orc who's drivings neck. The thing pulling us stops. The Orc slumps down in his seat, dead and I hear a small voice not too far away.

"Ugh!"

A young man.

"How come I miss that one target every time?!" He must be practicing archery.

"It's alright brother. These things take practice." An older voice.

"Yes, Kili. Go fetch that arrow, see where it went." A regal, deep voice sounds.

I stop my lingering and do what I have to.

"HELP!!"

The young man, Kili, wanders over here and his eyes widen when he sees the cart and his arrow in the drivers neck.
"Uncle Thorin!" The boys brother and the man run to find him.
He stands silently and points at the driver, not seeming to notice me.

"Please help!" I squeak out and the young one runs to the back. He gingerly lifts the cover and I am met with a very handsome face. His eyes are full of shock and concern.

"What happened?"

"I don't know! One minute I was in the woods running from a wolf and the next I'm in this cage on the back of an Orcs cart!" I started to cry because I'm trapped. I doubt they'll get me out any time soon. The man reaches his hand through the bars and wipes my cheek.

"Don't worry. We'll get you out soon." He gives me a small and sympathetic smile.

"Fili, search the Orc. Try finding some keys. Kili? Go and gather our things and come back here." The Uncle ordered before moving the sheets off of the other things in the cart with me. There wasn't anything but empty cages.

The young man nodded and ran back to where they had come from. His brother, Fili, quickly grabbed a set of keys from the orcs side. He ran back to me and hushed me as I cried, trying every key individually until he finds the right one. I sit curled uncomfortably, shaking and crying - scared of what would have happened to me had Kili not missed his target.

Kili runs back with a bag full of handmade targets with some food. His quiver and bow are slung over his back and he joins Fili, waiting to help me out.

"What's your name?"

"It's -" I stop myself realising I don't know. I start crying again. "I don't remember!" I sob and Kili again strokes my wet cheek with his warm hand, making me calm down and blush slightly.

"Hush, it's alright. We'll help you." I looked at him and studied his pretty face while Fili tried the last few keys.

Coincidentally, and exactly what I expected, the last key on the set was the one which worked in my cage. I let out a big breath when the door swung open. My legs still won't move and my shoulders ache from being crammed into such a minimal space.
Kili hold out his hands to me and I place my hands in his. Gently he pulls me out but I fall to the ground, my legs too tired to hold me. I'm confused when he doesn't lift me up again but I look at what the brothers are staring at and nearly black out again.

Behind me, lying limp, is a beautiful, huge tail. It's a dark, dark brown with a white fluffy tip. Kili lowers me down slowly and I pick up the furry tail to stroke it and feel it attached to me.

"Uncle Thorin!" Fili shouts to get his Uncle's attention and he walks around to where I am sitting behind the cart. To say he was shocked is an understatement.

"What are those?" He points to the top of my head.

"I think they're ears. Wolf ears." Fili reaches out and strokes the back of one. By his touch I can tell they are big. I lay my tail beside me and start pushing myself up when Kili helps me up with a hand around my waist. I am breathless. I have ears and a tail. What did that wolf do to me? Wait... the girl in my vision, was me...

"Let's take the cart back home. Maybe we can help you with, this." Thorin gestures to my head and the tail and I just nod.

"Here." Kili lifts me up into the cart and I sit with him opposite Fili while Thorin drives. The horse pulling the cart is a beautiful black stallion. What an orc was doing with it, I do not know.

"So, you don't remember your name?" Fili starts to ask me. I just shake my head.

"What's the last thing you remember before this happened? Before the orc shoved you in that cage." Thorin speaks over his shoulder.

"Well, I was in my camp and I heard howls, so I ran. When I was running I got caught and the wolf just lay there, at my feet and I reached down, touched its head and then... I just blacked out. After that I woke up in the cage and then you guys got me."

The three men all looked intrigued and listened intently as I spoke.

"Don't worry, we'll help you." Kili placed his hand on mine and gave me a gentle smile.

"I have to admit, the tail is beautiful. It makes you unique." Fili smiled across at me and we sat in near silence for the rest of the ride through the woods.
