Part Five: Seeking Advice

Circuit sat as far as he could from Winder. After what that repliwolf pulled, he didn't want to see him, let alone touch him. Still, with everyone packed in a small room, it was hard to get away. It was almost torturing.

He spotted Gear off by himself in a corner, shaking. Circuit wanted to walk over and comfort him, but nothing good would come out of it. He'd just get snapped at.

For a moment, Circuit sat staring off into space. What could he do? What should he do? Was he really the leader the others needed? He needed answers.

Then it him like a brick. Circuit knew what he needed to do. He needed to talk to Calamity. If only he could...wait there he was. Pushing his way through the crowd, muttering his apologies, Circuit managed to squeeze in just beside the older looking repliwolf.

"What is it Circuit?" Calamity asked, not looking to him.

"I need advice." Circuit answered quietly. "I need to speak with you."

Calamity put one paw to his forehead. Circuit noticed how the older repliwolf looked weaker. Had that much time past? Calamity wasn't much older than Circuit when they first met.

"Let me guess, you happened to have harmed another repliwolf and now you wonder how the others will treat you?" Calamity said in an impatient tone.

"Yeah that sums it up." Circuit answered. "I don't know what to do. Should I lead or should I step down? Should I continue fighting, or stop?" Circuit put his paws in his face and broke down.

As he cried, he felt a paw on his back and looked up. Calamity was looking at him, eyes full of sympathy. Sympathy was something Calamity would hardly give. What Circuit was getting was rare.

"I know you feel terrible, but you were being defensive, no one blames you for that." Calamity whispered in a calm voice.

"But what if..." Circuit began

"I do not want to here whatever you were about to say, listen to me." Calamity growled, cutting him off. "What you did was wrong, but you need to let it go, if you wish to keep leading."

Circuit looked down at his paws. How could he? Poor Dagger might not ever be able to see out of his eye thanks to him.

As if Calamity read his mind, the repliwolf added, "And Dagger shouldn't have engaged you or attacked Gear. If he hadn't, he'd be safe and not injured. It's not your fault in anyway. You got that?"

Circuit looked up and met Calamity's eyes. The other repliwolf had removed his paw and now was looking at him with a serious expression. Waiting for a response, Circuit guessed.

"Yeah I got it." Circuit answered. "I'll try putting it behind me, I promise."

Pleased with the answer, Calamity stood up. Circuit turned around and prepared to leave.

"Oh and Circuit." Calamity called after him. Circuit turned back to face him.

"Remember, kindness, mercy, bravery and forgiveness. These are the strengths of true leader and if you use them, you'll lead us all to victory. Keep that in mind."

Circuit smiled and trotted into the hallway, tail and head held high.
