Serious version.
In this world there are many reapers, though they don't only guide a person's soul to the Beyond, they also take their bodies. It was now as Marcel felt the throbbing in his chest and felt the eyes on the back of his neck that he knew. He knew this was it for him and he wasn't surprised to find that he was ready to leave this plane.
Marcel grunts as he hits his knees, the Reaper circling him as he waits for him to take his final breath. "Are you ready to die human~" came the guttural voice of the reaper, tone low and a bit distorted as it came from a separate realm.
Marcel grasps at his chest, letting out a pained sound as it felt like his heart was hammering at his ribcage. In a shattered breath he exhales his last words on the earth for none but the Reaper to here. "I died the day my love left me. You're just a bit late to collect the body."
The words left the Reaper as Marcel's soul separated from his body, dim in light, almost faded, compared to the many other's he'd reaped. The Reaper, having never been in love, didn't know the toll it could take on one's soul to fall out of it. He'd seen it before he just didn't understand, couldn't understand.
As the veil lifts long enough for the reaper to touch his body, corpse turning into dust before blowing away in the hot summer's breeze, a wreath appears on Marcel's door to signal the resident had died.
The reaper turns back towards Marcel's soul as the veil falls back into place, "let us leave here then." Not another word was spoken but as the world faded into black for Marcel he felt a falling sensation. It wasn't something he was afraid of because within the darkness he fell into a comforting warmth before he simply, ceased to exist, pain no more.
