ARCTURUS REMUS BLACK WAS A BROKEN KID, BUT A KID NEVERTHELESS. He liked playing quidditch, painting, playing with his friends just like every kid and cried all his nights away just like every broken person.

He didn't remember a day he woken up to end with him smiling. It was just like that, whatever had happened that day, it was just like that. He knew he had a hard life from the very early on in his life, he just didn't understand why he had to carry such burdens everyday when his friends could do anything without a care.

He was only 7 years old when he first saw the papers. The papers dated back to the first of November 1981, there was a title saying 'War is Over!'. He didn't know what war and he couldn't understand why they would use his father's name with traitor in front of it.

Then he turned the paper. That was the first time he saw his father's face. He knew the name, he just couldn't believe the name belonged to the mad man on the papers. He didn't have any expectations, no one spoke of him, Arcturus just wanted to believe his father was just as normal as his friend's fathers were.

He never saw his mother's face. He knew of her, of course. Capella Cartner, the brightest star in the Auriga constellation. She had left a diary, which Arcturus liked to think of as her legacy, and it was the only thing he had of her. The only source where he could learn about her.

Arcturus did learn about his mother and oh boy did he love her. He knew by heart every single thing she wrote down. The diary was through her fifth to sixth year in Hogwarts, some pages were burned, some were lost but every single word about his mother was there.

Arcturus could never have thought things could go even worse after going to Hogwarts. He knew what everyone said about the magical school and he knew that Hogwarts would cure him. It didn't.

He would never forget the way he was booed when his name was called to be sorted nor the way no one clapped at the Gryffindor table when he got into the house of the brave. They just didn't want him, Arcturus supposed.

Arcturus was never wanted anywhere. Not at his legal guardian's house and maybe not even at Hogwarts. He never understood why someone would hate a kid without any knowlege of him. All he had was a name.

He wasn't the biggest cryer but after the words he heard, the looks he saw at the Feast, he just couldn't help but grab his sheets and bury his face into his pillow so no one had to hear him. But someone did and Arcturus later was so glad he did.

"Hi, I'm Harry. You must be Arcturus." Harry smiled so widely as if Arcturus wasn't bawling his eyes out. "I think we are going to be great friends." The greatest of friends they became.

Arcturus never told Harry how he saved him from his own darkness by just a small act of kindness, he didn't have to. The Potter boy always understood the Black boy, always stood right by him and always loved him no matter how fucked up he was.

And after that, Arcturus found himself 4 reasons to stay alive for. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Violet Aron.
