I am messed up, life's messed up. I lay on the floor after snorting the last line of cocaine in a dark small room, sunrays entering the through the curtain. My friend Jay besides me, as high as me. I am different, I was always different. Bullied as a kid for the way I dressed up, my "boyish" behaviour, my interest in girls. "Do you think it's we who are wrong by being gay?" I ask Jay, staring at the Ceiling. "I guess so." He replies. "Should we, you know, try kissing?" I ask, wanting to know is wrong with me? We close our eyes and kiss, but feel nothing but a forced, emotionless wrong kiss.
That all changed when I met Sarah, that sweet, funny and beautiful girl who was my home. I wanted to be better, for her. She accepted me for who I am, shared my pain, made me laugh, pulled me out of that deep dark state of mind and made me confident of myself by being a lesbian. That's what love is about, just loving. I wanted to be away from this, just me and her. It's funny what love makes you do.So, when we boarded the 12:40am flight at the last moment, we smiled, I smiled, for the first time in years by my own willingness, and happy to start my life with the girl of my dreams, in a place where no one would know me, it would be just us, lesbian lovers in an unknown place, where I would be accepted as I am. She left her life for me, and I left my addiction for her behind. Maybe I will come back one day, to marry here freely as part of the LGBTQ+ community. I do hope I will be able to do that. Until then, goodbye. #pridemonth🏳️🌈
