The shower finally starts, as I groan In boredom getting up. 'I should go to Wal-Mart for more paint, and food for Chow. Shoot, But Ralph would get mad if I left without him again. Looks like I gotta wait.' I think to myself walking out of the studio.
I walk out closing the door behind me and head to the living room, Chow trotting happily beside me. I round the corner and slouch down on the old couch, in front, the dusty tv sits on the news channel, with me in the spotlight flipping off the camera. Thankfully they never got any of my face so I'm still safe, for now anyway.
As I sit watching the news I hear them say I killed a human man as an act of aggression towards humans, scoffing at the lies or misunderstandings, I pat my leg calling for Chow. He trots from his spot on his bed and hops up on my lap, resting his big ol' head on my shoulder, letting out a large yawn, flicking his tongue everywhere, getting drool all over my neck, and back. I lean back into the couch resting my gears.
I sit watching the clip of me on the roof of the building play over again on the news, people making theories of my model number, or if I were an attack sent from Russia. " Fuckin' idiots." I grunt under my breath. Chow lets out a grunt as well, causing me to laugh at him. "You and me both pall." I say rubbing at the fur on his back. A quiet nock comes from behind me. I turn to see Ralph, hair soaked, and leaving drops of water on his sweater, standing awkwardly in the doorway. I pat the seat next to me, looking back to the tv bordly. He shuffles his way next to me sitting awkwardly messing with the hem of his shirt. "You can relax." I say slouching further into the couch. Ralph rests his back onto the couch, hearing his regulator slow down to a small whir. "So this is where (Y\N) was today?" He asks quietly. I nod in confirmation. "Yup. It took me a good fifteen, maybe twenty minutes to get them off of my tail. That's a new record actually. Nice." I say thoughtlessly. Ralph gives me a bit of a smile and continues watching tv. The clip of me jumping off of the building plays, causing Ralph to let out a small gasp, and quickly turn towards me. Unmoving I say "Keep watching." and point to the tv. He turns just in time to see me vanish into another building, relief spreads across his face as a woman appears on the screen. I laugh at his face and lightly punch his shoulder. "I'm never gonna get hurt bud." I say reassuringly, remembering that android from the alley way. He barely grazed me, but it was more precise than any cop. There getting better. I make it seem like I'm clearing my throat getting ready to speak. "I'm off to Wal-Mart soon, and I figured you might want to join me.Maybe to get you a new plant, and so I can get me some more paint." I say scratching the back of Chows ears. He thinks for a minute before nodding his head. "Ralph as been wanting a desert rose for some time." He says happily. I give him a smile before beginning to stand up, causing Chow to hop off of me and trot to his bed. "Ya ready?" I ask him while turning off the tv. He slips on a pair of black converse and nods.
I lock the door behind us, and begin to head to the bus stop. Thankfully it's just right around the corner, so it doesn't take too long. The rain was still pelting down like the flood of Noah's arch, but it still felt good against my synthetic skin. The bus arrived, screeching to a halt, with water splashing at our shoes. I step onto the bus Ralph right behind me, fidgeting with his hands, looking anywhere where there weren't any humans. I slouch into the same seat with Ralph plopping right next to me, close not wanting to be any closer to anybody else. "Let's switch seats." I say standing up. He follows my lead and shuffles to my seat before, looking out the window at the street lights and store signs. I slouch into the outside seat, craning my neck up to look at the sieling seeing a old lights and aluminum. A cool hand slips around mine as I sit, causing me to look in surprise, but then I remember Ralph isn't used to so many people in one area, heck just people in general, he's always used me as support when he was uncomfortable, so I relax in my seat, lightly rubbing circles on the back of his hand with my thumb. I see his body tension loosen up slowly but, his grip on my hand remains tight ,and cool. I sigh and lean into my seat, shoving my other hand into my pocket playing (F\S) in my mind palace ,and linking myself with Ralph so he can hear. He begins to silently mumble the lyrics, tapping his foot to the beat. I begin to silently sing the lyrics with Ralph, feeling his grip on my hand tighten a bit, my voice not mixing well with his vibrato, but I still enjoy it anyway.
The bus jerks to a stop causing Ralph so slide out of his seat, almost falling if he didn't catch himself, grunting a bit as his head hits the back of the seat. Stifling a laugh I help him up ,and walk down the aisle, as people try to avoid my gaze on the bus. We hop off of the bus, quietly thanking the bus driver, the doors slamming behind us. Turning around on my heel I head into the Wal-Mart, with Ralph right at my heels, quietly mumbling to himself. Mindlessly my feet guide me to the caned paint section, eyes scanning the shelves, stopping at the crimson red paint sticking out from the rest. Grabbing three of them I shake em' a bit to make sure its full and not thicker than it needs to be, then nodding in approval. I turn to see Ralph had grabbed a hand held basket, tossing the cans in I smile. "Ready to get you some new plants?" I Ask Ralph. He nods excitedly doing a little happy jig. I laugh at him and head over to the potted plant section not too far from here. Stopping at the shelf full of succulents and cacti (Also a succulent plant\ cactus) Ralph eyes a certain plant spiralling, spiraling around itself with chunky leaves, green at the bottom but then slowly giving of a rosey pink hue. A desert flower. His eyes lock on a similar one but it's white with maroon ends. He sits thinking, but I interrupt his thoughts grabbing both and gently putting them in the basket. "But Ralph can only get one." He says a bit panicked. "I didn't say you could only get one. New let's go grab some dog food for Chow and some plant food as well. I say walking down the aisle with a sigh.
We quickly grab the food, checking out with ease, and walk out, Ralph holding the bags and the two plants in hand, while I hold Chows dog food in my arms. The rain is still going, soaking our clothes again before we reach the bus stop. Thankfully it's here in about five minutes. Hopping on, the ride is silent with no one but us and the bus driver.
The bus stops, oddly we didn't get flung across the bus as usual, I stand and make my way down the aisle thanking the bus driver, him giving us a nod before, closing the door behind us, and taking off. The walk home was silent, the sound of rain accompanying Ralph and I.
I unlock the door and walk in, closing it behind Ralph, locking it quickly, and dropping off the dog food in the kitchen. I turn and walk back to the studio, glancing at Ralph in his room looking in awe at the succulents, smiling at his face, I enter the studio, closing the door behind me.
I grab two smaller plant pots and get to work, painting them to match the plants.
I hope he likes them.
