"Of course, where to?" I handed her my phone opened on google maps and she typed in the address of where we were heading. I saw it was a two hour drive and I looked at her in confusion. I took back my phone and sent Rach a quick text to let her know that I won't be home until late tonight and not to wait up. I placed my phone to the support grip hanging on the window so I could see where I'm heading without having to hold my phone. "I'm just going to fill up the car with diesel and we can head then. Why do you grab some drinks and snack?"

We both got out of the car and I filled the tank while she grabbed the snacks. I met her at the checkout and much to her disagreement I paid. We walked back out the car and she was still mumbling under her breath about how I should've left her pay and I just laughed. We talked the entire drive about everything and anything. We hadn't had a chat like that in quite a long time, in fact I don't think we've hung out along like this in years so it was nice to spend time like this with her.

I pulled up in front of this massive three storey house on the outskirts of the village where google maps had led me. I looked over at Ma just as I parked the car to see her already storming out of the car and towards the house. I put the car into park and turned off the engine quickly before trying to catch up with her before she broke down the front door. She knocked hard and loudly on the door and I looked at her in concern.

"Ma, what's going on? Who lives h...", the front door opened and my sentence was cut off as I gasped softly when I saw who stood on the other side. I didn't know exactly how I was feeling at that moment but it was definitely a mixture of hurt, anger, pain, sadness, hatred and most of all, betrayal. "Luce?" She didn't have time to react before Ma grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and pressed her against the door angrily. Lucy grunted in pain but didn't fight back.

I jumped towards them and had to forcefully pull Ma away from her and stand between them so she wouldn't pounce again. "How fucking dare you! You selfish fucking bitch! How dare you!" I stood in shock staring after Ma as she stormed back to the car. It took me a few seconds to fully comprehend what had just happened before turning to Lucy. She was about to speak but I held up my hand to quieten her.

"I don't want to hear it Luce. You're too late." I walked from her without another glance and made my way back to the car. I made it to the gate before my arm was grabbed. I turned around to come face to face with Lucy and sighed. I studied her for a few moments and noticed some subtle changes in her like the colour of her hair and the numerous freckles on her face that weren't there before. She also looked younger if that's even possible, like she was refreshed. It gave me the vibe that maybe she was better off without us in the long haul. It almost felt like we were quite possibly holding her back from living her life the way she always wanted.

"I waited by phone for you to call everyday for almost a year now and now that I see you in person for the first time since then it almost seems like you don't miss us as much as we miss you. Like you don't regret leaving one bit. Seeing you is making every worst case in scenario I made up in my head come true and it kills me Luce. Was it well and truly worth it in the end?" She rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly keeping her eyes on the ground. I stepped towards her and brought my hands to her cheeks. "Just know that I'll always love you but I've to be there Keira. If you need anything you can call but I think it's best we keep so space for now okay?" She looked at me sadly and nodded her head weakly.

I looked over my shoulder to see Ma was looking down at her phone and turned back to Luce. I pulled her into a tight embrace and she hugged me back just as tight. "It wasn't worth it. Losing you wasn't worth it." I bit down on my lower lip hard to stop myself from crying and pulled away from her. I smiled weakly at her and walked towards the car. Just before I got in I looked back at her. I waved weakly at her before getting in and starting the engine.
